Your Role At Pivot
As a Design Intern, you will be responsible for supporting the design team in the development of workplace solutions for new and existing clients. You will work alongside a team of dynamic, creative workplace designers, practicing high standards for design, providing a high level of customer satisfaction, and serving as a supportive & collaborative member of a dynamic project team.  

In Addition, You Will  

  • Assume responsibility for the completion of designated design tasks under the supervision of design mentor and design project leads, including but not limited to the following:
  • Assist with the creation of schematic floor plans, furniture thought starters, curated furniture options, fabric & finish palettes, technical furniture drawings, and renderings
  • Create and update project-specific furniture, fabric, finish, and typical approval packages
  • Contact vendors and obtain product pricing and quotations
  • Create and update project-specific furniture specifications
  • Order project-specific fabric/finish samples
  • Coordinate testing of COM (customer’s own material) with vendors
  • Assist with the organization and preparation of client meetings & presentations
  • Attend client meetings & presentations with design project lead
  • Participate in site verifications
  • Champion design operational excellence by implementing established design process and documentation standards; manage and record billable hours, cultivate efficiencies, and reduce errors.
  • Demonstrate proficient time management skills; effectively address competing priorities and urgent situations, making sound decisions in short timeframes with appropriate action and guidance from design mentor or project lead.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

We’re Excited About You If You Have

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time CIDA accredited Interior Design program.
  • Completed your third year of an Undergraduate program or first year of a Master’s program.
  • Basic understanding of building systems, building codes, electrical, and cabling.
  • Familiarity with commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Interior Design.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding graphic presentation skills.
  • Strong, persuasive communicator with excellent verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex design concepts to clients.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill using 2D/3D software, CET Designer, AutoCAD, 20/20 Cap, Sketch Up, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, In Design, and Illustrator), and Microsoft Office Suite. Revit a plus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but position may require supervision of junior design staff members and contractors as project requirements dictate.

Ability to respond to complex inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to top management in client organizations, public groups and other outside entities.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
