Position Summary...Dispatch Operations Manager – West Transportation Command Center
Location: Bentonville, AR
Job Summary
The Transportation Command Center is a vital part of Walmart’s supply chain, ensuring the efficient and timely movement of goods from vendors to distribution centers and stores. As a Dispatch Operations Manager, you’ll own the day‑to‑day health and continuous improvement of our dispatch platform—translating real user issues into clear problem statements, prioritizing fixes with Product/Engineering, and turning insights into shipped improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Ownership & Initiative
• Act as a self-starter who independently identifies opportunities and drives change.
• Promote a culture of transparency, continuous improvement, and ethical standards aligned with Walmart’s values.
• Translate field pain points into clear problem statements and acceptance criteria; prioritize with Product/Engineering and follow through to delivery.
Operational Excellence & Strategy
• Recommend tuning to dispatch/optimization cost factors (e.g., empty vs. incremental miles, time‑to‑assignment) to improve planning quality and reliability.
• Lead initiatives to reduce empty miles, improve route efficiency, and lower transportation costs.
• Identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions to enhance operations.
Automation & Systems Integration
• Champion automation by transitioning repeatable tasks into the dispatch platform and connected systems; promote exception‑based management.
• Promote exception-based management to enable strategic focus.
• Create plain‑language job aids/release notes and train users on new capabilities and process improvements.
Data Analytics & Problem Solving
• Work with large datasets to extract insights, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and tell compelling stories with data.
• Condense multiple issues into clear problem statements with quantified impact; prioritize and drive resolution across sprints/releases.
• Track KPIs (acceptance/utilization, planning reliability, time‑to‑assignment, SLA adherence) and sustain gains through follow‑ups.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with Operations and Logistics leaders, Product, Engineering, and Asset Management to align strategies and deliver outcomes.
• Communicate updates and changes in clear, non‑technical language to ensure smooth execution.
Incident Leadership
• Lead incident triage and root‑cause analysis (RCA); classify impact and drive fast mitigation with clear standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
• Validate fixes in production and document one‑best‑way standards to prevent recurrence.
Risk & Compliance Management
• Maintain contingency playbooks and uphold SLAs (time‑to‑triage, time‑to‑mitigation, defect cycle time) for system stability.
• Ensure compliance with Walmart’s policies, guidelines, and relevant regulations.

Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or operations management.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience leading incident triage and RCA for production systems, partnering with Product/Engineering to deliver fixes.
• Ability to communicate complex system behavior in clear, non‑technical terms to frontline teams and leaders.
Preferred:
• Experience managing budgets, P&L, and analyzing operational data.
• Experience with dispatching or trip‑planning platforms (driver assignment, workload stitching, route optimization).
• Experience writing acceptance criteria/PRDs, running UAT, and measuring post‑release impact.

Supervise and manage associates and leaders in area of responsibility by giving direction monitoring performance and providing feedback identifying training and development needs and providing opportunities for learning and growth teaching supporting and modeling Logistics and company policies and procedures and participating in the hiring promotion coaching teaching and evaluation of associates leaders and managers
Prepare review and or analyze business reports and use information to identify operational improvements e.g. production quality safety
