Job description

Spira Manufacturing is seeking an Operations Intern to learn Spira's end-to-end manufacturing process while supporting process documentation, cross-functional projects, safety initiatives, and day-to-day operations. The intern will work with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Finance, Quality, and the Safety Team to improve process visibility, standardization, communication, and execution.

This internship runs Tuesday, 09/08/26 – end of December (12-16 weeks) and requires 20–40 hours per week.


Job Accountabilities:

• Complete onboarding and required safety training while learning the end-to-end manufacturing flow and key operational controls.

• Rotate through receiving, planning, material flow, production, quality, inventory, shipment, and related cross-functional workflows.

• Observe and document current-state processes, key handoffs, standard work, controls, and improvement opportunities.

• Create or revise procedures and work instructions for assigned priority processes, incorporating feedback from process owners and obtaining approval before release.

• Support an Operations special project through planning, data collection, action tracking, schedule follow-up, and recommendations.

• Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Finance, Quality, and Safety partners to understand dependencies and support cross-functional execution.

• Assist the Safety Team with observations, audits, communications, action tracking, and timely closure of assigned safety tasks.

• Prepare summaries of manufacturing process flow, operational results, documentation gaps, and improvement opportunities.

• Deliver a final report and presentation summarizing work completed, results, recommendations, and project or document handoff items.


Job Specifications:


Education: Currently enrolled in high school, college, university, or a relevant career/technical program; coursework or interest in operations, manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, safety, or a related field is preferred.


Years’ Experience: No prior professional experience required. Exposure to manufacturing, operations, process improvement, safety, data collection, or team-based projects is helpful.


Skills:

• Strong organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to track tasks and project milestones.

• Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to document processes and present information to different audiences.

• Willingness to learn ERP systems, schedules, procedures, shared files, production processes, and safety requirements.

• Ability to work respectfully and effectively with Operations, Production, Sales, Engineering, Finance, Quality, and Safety partners.

• Analytical curiosity and initiative to identify process gaps, ask questions, collect accurate information, and suggest practical improvements.

• Ability to follow established safety, quality, confidentiality, and approval requirements in a manufacturing environment.

• Comfort using email, word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation tools.
