Job Title: Gear Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer

Job Overview
The Gear Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer provides technical expertise and leadership in gear
manufacturing and inspection. This role focuses on optimizing quality standards for gears and splines while
supporting operations with engineering solutions.
This is an onsite position located in Milwaukee, WI.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Provides technical support for gear manufacturing and inspection, ensuring compliance with quality
standards.
- Designs hobs, cutters, and grinding wheels.
- Utilizes UTS Gear Engineering software to calculate sizes, create DXF files, design long-lead tooling, and
generate process data.
- Uses solid models to develop setup sheets.
- Analyzes engineering drawings, solid models, and quality standards to determine program requirements.
- Develops and implements new manufacturing methods (DFMA).
- Creates and maintains NC programs for gear hobbers, shapers, grinders, and inspection machines.
- Establishes and updates cutting parameters on process sheets for gear machining.
- Manages a catalog of gear hobs, cutters, and grinding wheels, including sourcing.
- Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance cost, productivity, safety, quality, and on-time
delivery.
- Evaluates and upgrades equipment; prepares capital project requests.
- Requisitions gear-cutting tools.
- Identifies and facilitates product design improvements through the RFPD system.
- Assists with routing sequences, PFMEA development, and cost estimates.
- Develops and documents setup sheets using SolidWorks for NC machines.
- Establishes machine speeds, feed rates, and cut configurations using vendor software.
- Writes manufacturing procedures and provides training to hourly employees.
- Participates in pre-production design reviews to ensure manufacturability.
-Performs reverse engineering and provides technical support for gear rework.
- Assists maintenance with machine geometry inspections and preventative maintenance plans.
- Supports machine tool rebuilds, upgrades, and new equipment procurement for product manufacturing.
- Evaluates vendor proposals, writes CEAs, and oversees acceptance testing for new machine tools.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial) preferred. Will consider an
associate's degree or equivalent from a technical college and Journeyman status OR 10 years of experience
in the machine trades.
- Five years of gear manufacturing experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook), UTS Software, and CAD design software.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Strong multitasking, time management, and organizational skills.
