This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
As the Senior Manager of multi discipline support, Combustion Devices engineering and product team, you will set technical and product support directions and develop team members to support current and future program needs. You will also support in-house and supplier activities in the design, fabrication, and continuous improvement of combustion device component for ULA and New Glenn customers. This includes leading and promoting process improvement and development activities across all phases of the component life cycle to support on-rate product delivery.
You will be responsible for the complete employee experience, including hiring, performance management, training, and providing tools for career development. You will help improve technical processes, requirements and tool development in the focused areas of engine test planning, execution, and engine development cycles, as well as provide day-to-day direction.
This role is an integral part of the Blue Origin BE-4 program, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, procurement, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, and national security missions.
In addition to people management responsibilities, you will provide direct technical support across all phases of the component life cycle. You will contribute to and lead component design, manufacturing, and test support; perform data reviews and test readiness reviews; and support anomaly investigations and root cause analyses to drive corrective actions and hardware improvements.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise and leadership skills to positively support our efforts to build the road to space. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical, or Physics preferred)
  • 8+ years of aerospace industry or related field experience, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of engineers in a fast-paced environment, producing and delivering hardware to meet customer needs; provides strategic thinking and fosters an environment of continuous improvement to support delivery rate, material cost, touch labor, and nonconformance goals
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing engineering talent, including coaching, mentoring, and creating growth opportunities for team members
  • Strong technical fundamentals in mechanical design, manufacturing, supply chain, and materials processing, including machining, welding, brazing, and additive manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Demonstrated experience with computer-aided design (CAD) tools
  • Demonstrated experience leading Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Proven understanding of production processes
  • Familiarity with data analysis and data processing
  • Demonstrated success with corrective action implementation
  • Consistent track record of leading teams by earning trust and maintaining positive, professional relationships in ways that strengthen our culture and partnerships with other disciplines
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering M.S., MBA, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of liquid rocket engine combustion devices experience
  • Technical fundamentals in rocket engine propulsion, fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and/or combustion
  • Working knowledge of combustion devices design, manufacturing, and testing
  • Lean or Six Sigma knowledge/certifications
  • Experience with production optimization theory and implementation
  • 2+ years of people leadership experience with 8+ direct reports
  • Experience leading and developing engineers into high performers
  • Track record of challenging the status quo, even in the face of organizational inertia
  • Experience with test data post-processing and troubleshooting
  • Experience with scripting or programming (Python or similar) for test data analysis, automation, or tooling develop

Base Pay Range for:
CA applicants is $183,807.00 - $257,328.75WA applicants is $183,807.00 - $257,328.75
