What does a product manager web do?

A Product Manager Web is responsible for overseeing the development and success of web-based products or features. They work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and marketers, to define product vision, gather requirements, prioritize features, and ensure timely delivery. Their main goal is to align the web product with business objectives and user needs, continuously improving it based on feedback and market trends. Product Managers also track key metrics to measure product performance and make data-driven decisions.

How does a product manager web typically collaborate with engineering and design teams during the product development process?

Product Manager Web professionals work closely with both engineering and design teams throughout the product lifecycle. They facilitate regular meetings such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and design reviews to ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and user requirements. It’s common for Product Managers to translate business objectives into actionable tasks, prioritize features based on user feedback or data, and resolve any cross-functional blockers that arise. This collaborative environment helps maintain clear communication and fosters a strong sense of shared ownership over the final product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product manager web, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Manager Web, you need a solid understanding of web technologies, user experience principles, and business strategy, often supported by a degree in business, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, Google Analytics, and Agile/Scrum methodologies, as well as certifications like Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), is highly beneficial. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and critical thinking skills help you effectively prioritize features and align cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for driving product success, delivering value to users, and achieving organizational goals in a fast-paced digital environment.

Job description

Product Owner, Web

Shape Digital Experiences. Drive Product Impact.

Are you ready to lead the evolution of a digital platform that connects healthcare leaders with the insights and resources they need? As MGMA’s Product Owner, Web, you’ll guide the delivery of our public website, member and customer portals, and the integrations that bring the entire experience together. You’ll turn strategic priorities into intuitive, high-performing features while keeping cross-functional teams aligned from discovery through launch. Working across marketing, design, engineering, analytics, and external partners, you’ll balance user needs, business goals, and technical realities. Your leadership will help strengthen engagement, support growth, and make every digital interaction more valuable.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the experience: Guide the roadmap and backlog for MGMA’s website, customer and member portals, and connected digital systems.
  • Turn strategy into action: Translate growth, brand, content, and customer priorities into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and release-ready work.
  • Lead delivery: Coordinate multiple workstreams through discovery, design, development, testing, launch, and post-release improvement.
  • Champion the user: Shape accessible, intuitive journeys across navigation, landing pages, forms, content, and portal experiences.
  • Test and optimize: Build experimentation, personalization, A/B testing, analytics, and conversion improvement into the product process.
  • Unite the team: Direct the work of an internal cross-functional pod, one direct report, engineering partners, agencies, freelancers, and technology vendors.
  • Measure the impact: Define success metrics, evaluate product performance, monitor web health, and turn insights into smarter backlog priorities.

What You’ll Have

  • A product owner’s mindset: The ability to translate broad priorities into focused, buildable work and make sound delivery decisions.
  • A collaborative leadership style: Confidence aligning business partners, creatives, engineers, analysts, and vendors around shared outcomes.
  • An instinct for the user: A commitment to accessible, streamlined, and high-quality digital experiences.
  • A data-informed perspective: The curiosity to test ideas, interpret performance signals, and continually improve results.
  • A technical translator’s skill: The ability to connect business needs with architecture, integrations, APIs, estimation, and implementation choices.
  • A clear communication approach: Strong presentation, stakeholder-management, and expectation-setting capabilities.
  • A steady delivery focus: The judgment to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality, momentum, and accountability.

What You’ll Bring

  • A proven digital product track record: Three or more years in product ownership, product management, or a comparable role delivering complex digital platforms.
  • An Agile delivery foundation: Two or more years working within a defined product development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum environment alongside software engineering teams.
  • A web platform perspective: Practical experience with modern content platforms, system integrations, APIs, analytics, and backlog-management tools.
  • A relevant learning foundation: A bachelor’s degree in marketing, visual design, development, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent education and experience will also be considered. Healthcare, association, UX/UI, or SEO experience is a plus.

Ready to build web experiences people value? If you’re motivated by owning complex digital products and guiding cross-functional delivery, we want to hear from you.
