Job description

Job Title: Courseware Developer

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Department: Training

Reports To: Training Manager

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret clearance

Position Summary

The Courseware Developer builds military training content including CBT, IMI, student guides, and assessments as part of a small instructional design and multimedia team. This role is designed for candidates with adjacent skills such as QA, technical writing, multimedia, classroom instruction, or aviation and military training experience who want to grow into a full courseware author. Adobe Captivate proficiency is learned on the job through structured coaching and paired authoring.


Key Responsibilities

  • Courseware production (≈80%): Begin with QA, writing, and storyboard implementation; progress to independent Captivate builds.
  • QA testing: Identify functional defects, navigation issues, broken interactions, and design mismatches.
  • Learner-facing writing: Produce guides, job aids, POIs, lesson plans, and reference materials
  • aligned to ISD objectives.
  • Assessment development: Build written and scenario-based assessments; grow into branching logic and remediation paths.
  • Storyboard implementation: Convert ISD storyboards into functional lesson pages and IMI screens.
  • & standards: Validate against Section 508/WCAG and SCORM requirements.
  • Media integration: Coordinate graphics, animations, VO, and video placement.
  • SME dialogue: Participate in SME sessions; take on independent clarifications over time.
  • Maintain traceability, configuration control, defect resolution, and continuous improvement feedback loops.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in ID, EdTech, Communications, English, Multimedia, or equivalent DoD/QA/technical-writing experience.
  • 1–4 years in QA, technical writing, instructional support, multimedia, classroom instruction, or aviation/military training.
  • Strong writing craft, attention to detail, and ability to learn authoring tools quickly.
  • Familiarity with NAVAIR/military training conventions or ability to learn them.
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams; disciplined version control.
  • U.S. citizen; eligible for Top Secret clearance.
  • On-site in Oklahoma City; coachable and comfortable with rapid feedback.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret (SCI preferred).
  • Experience with Captivate, Storyline, Rise, or Lectora.
  • Knowledge of SCORM, xAPI, Section 508/WCAG, IMI levels.
  • Adobe Creative Suite familiarity.
  • or Naval Aviation background.
  • Instructional design coursework or self-study.
  • Small-team, cross-functional experience; AS9100 familiarity.
