Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the overall management of the facility's production operations, encompassing quality control, production scheduling, process improvements, and day-to-day operations. This role ensures efficient utilization of resources, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.

SUPERVISION:

  • Received: Works with a high degree of autonomy under the general direction of a senior manager or executive.

  • Exercised: Directs and manages a team, which may include supervisors, managers, and/or individual contributors. Key responsibilities include hiring, firing, performance management, and compensation reviews.

DISCRETION:

Resolves critical operational and strategic issues. Contributes significantly to the unit's development. Makes decisions aligned with company and functional objectives, optimizing allocated resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Production Management: Provide overall management of finished product production, process improvements, and materials usage. Oversee and optimize monthly production scheduling to ensure efficient facility utilization based on inventory needs.

  • Operational Leadership: Manage production staff and equipment. Recommend and justify the purchase of new or improved capital equipment. Collaborate with management to prioritize maintenance activities, including material usage, repair methods, preventive maintenance programs, and downtime scheduling.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure the production department strictly complies with all health, safety, and environmental programs and regulations. Maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with company specifications for cleanliness and environmental laws. Review the physical plant for unsafe conditions, deterioration, and general cleanliness.

  • Quality & Customer Relations: Partner with the Technical Manager to oversee quality control, including customer relations, product specifications, and finished product quality. Assist in resolving production complaints and collaborate with the sales team to ensure high customer satisfaction through quality products and services.

  • Efficiency & Cost Control: Maximize production efficiency while consistently ensuring established quality standards are met. Implement and maintain robust cost control and operating efficiencies, including raw material and finished goods inventory control.

  • Financial Reporting: Work with the accounting department to review production reporting and monthly financial and operations reports.

  • Team Development: Responsible for the recruitment, performance development, promotion, and discipline of production employees. Assign objectives and conduct performance appraisals for all direct reports.

  • Compliance & General Duties: Adhere to all company and government regulatory safety rules and ensure hazardous conditions are reported and corrected. Perform all other tasks and/or responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.

  • Five (5) or more years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Communication: Highly skilled in reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex scientific/technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Proven ability to effectively present information to top management and respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community.

  • Math: Ability to calculate figures and amounts (discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume). Proficient in applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Reasoning: Expert ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and manage multiple abstract and concrete variables.

  • Computer Skills: Must be proficient in operating a computer and various standard office machines and equipment necessary to fulfill duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent repetitive motions, reaching, talking, listening, standing, walking, sitting, and bending at the waist. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

  • Travel: Up to 10% travel is required.

  • Attendance: Reliable and consistent attendance is required.

  • Work Environment: The employee may encounter extreme temperatures or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, vibrations, and moderate to loud noise. Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
