What does a product management intern do?

A Product Management Intern assists product managers in researching customer needs, analyzing market trends, and supporting the development and launch of new products or features. Their responsibilities often include gathering user feedback, preparing reports, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and helping to define product requirements. This role provides hands-on experience in the product development lifecycle and helps interns develop skills in communication, problem-solving, and project management.

What kinds of projects and responsibilities can a product management intern expect to handle during their internship?

As a Product Management Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that support the product lifecycle, such as conducting market research, analyzing user feedback, and assisting with feature prioritization. You may also help coordinate cross-functional meetings with engineering, design, and marketing teams to ensure alignment on product goals. Interns often get hands-on experience with creating product documentation, tracking key performance metrics, and contributing to product launch activities. This role provides valuable exposure to how products are developed and managed in a real-world environment, often serving as a stepping stone to full-time opportunities in product management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product management intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Management Intern, you need strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and a basic understanding of product lifecycle concepts, often supported by coursework in business, engineering, or a related field. Job description

About Landjourney

Landjourney builds loan origination and servicing software for agricultural lenders across North America. Our platform supports the lending journey from application through closing and servicing, helping lenders deliver a better experience to the farmers and agricultural businesses they serve.

We are a small, fast-moving team based in Montreal, working with some of the largest agricultural and commercial lenders in the United States.

The role

At Landjourney, an Associate Product Manager intern is part of the full product lifecycle. This is not a rotation or a shadowing role. You will work directly with the CPO on the day-to-day work of building a B2B software product: understanding customer needs, testing new features, keeping the backlog useful, and making sure customers can successfully adopt what we ship.

You will own work that reaches customers and production from your first weeks. You will learn how product decisions are made in a fast-moving SaaS company, how to prioritize when everything feels important, and how a complex industry works from the inside.

You will also have access to customer conversations, Claude Code, and a coffee machine. It will be fun.

What you will do
  • Test new features before they reach customers and clearly document what needs to be fixed
  • Write user guides, release notes, and other customer-facing product content
  • Record short product demos as new features ship
  • Triage questions from lenders, respond when you can, and escalate when needed
  • Review customer call transcripts to identify evidence, decisions, action items, and product opportunities
  • Keep the product backlog healthy by drafting tickets, refining epics, and maintaining an organized Jira workspace
  • Build lightweight reports and dashboards to track product adoption and usage
  • Support product research and contribute to PRDs and other product documents under the CPO's guidance
  • Improve how our small product team works by spotting gaps and proposing practical solutions
What we are looking for
  • You write clearly, concisely, and with structure
  • You notice details other people miss and follow through on them
  • You genuinely enjoy helping clients and want them to have an excellent experience with both our product and our team
  • You are comfortable working through ambiguity and know when to ask for clarification
  • You can prioritize your work and communicate progress without being chased
  • You are curious about how software products are designed, built, launched, and improved
  • You are enrolled in a business, management, computer science, engineering, or related program
  • You are available to work full-time from our Montreal office during the fall term
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with fintech, lending, or agricultural technology
  • Experience working at a SaaS company or startup
  • Familiarity with product concepts such as user stories, acceptance criteria, release notes, analytics, and feature flags
  • Comfort reading code or using Git
  • SQL or other data analysis skills
  • Experience using AI tools to research, write, analyze, or build
Details
  • Location: Montreal, QC, in person at the Fintech Station in Place Ville Marie
  • Term: Fall 2026, with a flexible start date in September and a flexible end date in December
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Compensation: CA$1,200 per week

Landjourney is an equal-opportunity employer with a diverse team. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates, including women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; Indigenous peoples; persons with disabilities; newcomers to Canada; and members of visible minority groups.

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  1. Be registered as a domestic student at a Canadian postsecondary institution
  2. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
