What is a product development sourcing manager?

A Product Development Sourcing Manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing suppliers during the product development process. They collaborate closely with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure that materials and components meet quality, cost, and timeline objectives. Their role involves negotiating contracts, mitigating supply chain risks, and optimizing sourcing strategies to support new product launches. Effective Product Development Sourcing Managers help companies bring innovative products to market efficiently and cost-effectively.

How does a product development sourcing manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the product lifecycle?

A Product Development Sourcing Manager works closely with design, engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain teams throughout the product lifecycle. They facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure that materials and components meet specifications, cost targets, and timelines. Strong negotiation, project management, and cross-functional communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies ensure cost-effective sourcing, timely product launches, and effective collaboration with suppliers and internal teams, driving business success.
