Product Development Process Engineer information

What does a product development process engineer do?

A Product Development Process Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and overseeing the processes involved in developing new products from concept to production. They collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as design, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure products are developed efficiently, cost-effectively, and according to quality standards. Their role often includes analyzing workflows, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing best practices to streamline the product development lifecycle.

How does a product development process engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during new product launches?

Product Development Process Engineers play a vital role in bridging the gap between design, manufacturing, and quality teams during new product launches. They work closely with R&D, production, and supply chain teams to ensure that product designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards. This involves participating in design reviews, coordinating prototype builds, troubleshooting process issues, and implementing feedback from various stakeholders. Effective communication and project management skills are crucial, as these engineers often lead meetings and facilitate alignment across departments to keep the project on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product development process engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Development Process Engineer, you need expertise in engineering principles, product lifecycle management, and process optimization, often backed by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, statistical analysis tools, and methodologies like Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, project management abilities, and effective communication help you collaborate across teams and drive innovation. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality products efficiently while meeting business objectives and regulatory requirements.

What is the difference between Product Development Process Engineer vs Product Design Engineer?

Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond.  Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

This Test Engineer role is part of a highimpact team responsible for delivering test software and ATE solutions that enable highvolume manufacturing of nextgeneration AMD microprocessors. You will work across the full test development lifecycle architecting test strategies, bringing up and debugging ATE content, converting patterns, and driving silicon characterization and analysis. This role offers deep technical ownership, handson work with leadingedge silicon, and collaboration across design, product engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in complex technical environments and enjoys solving problems that directly influence product quality and performance.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is a strong technical problemsolver who is curious, collaborative, and comfortable working across hardware, software, and manufacturing domains. They excel in fastpaced environments, communicate clearly, think analytically, and enjoy mentoring others while driving results. This person brings a combination of handson debug skills, structured thinking, and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, debug, and release ATE test software, diagnostics, timing, and pattern content for highvolume manufacturing.
  • Lead technically significant projects and drive improvements to test methodologies, tools, and workflows.
  • Perform silicon characterization, data analysis, and structured rootcause debug across hardware, software, and device interactions.
  • Influence technical decisions impacting product quality, yield, and manufacturability.
  • Identify and execute improvement activities to reduce cost, enhance yield, and resolve quality issues.
  • Collaborate closely with crossfunctional engineering teams to correlate results across lab, manufacturing, and customer environments.
  • Provide technical guidance or mentoring to junior engineers and contribute to technical publications as appropriate.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal partners and support the team’s longterm product and test objectives.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Programming or scripting with languages such as Python, Perl, C++, or Java.
  • Experience developing tests, vectors/patterns, diagnostics, and timing for ATE platforms.
  • Familiarity with JTAG IEEE 1149.1 and hardware description languages.
  • Handson debug experience across hardware, software, device, or manufacturing domains.
  • Experience with ATE pattern generation and conversion workflows.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or similar development methodologies.
  • Background releasing test programs to highvolume manufacturing.
  • Comfort working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with revision control tools (GIT, SVN, CVS, RCS) and Linux/UNIX environments.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • B.S. in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferred;
  • M.S. in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering desired.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
