Job description

We're looking for a Product Development Engineer who enjoys turning ideas into real products. This role is ideal for an engineer who wants to be involved in the entire development process, from concept generation and design to testing, surgeon feedback, manufacturing transfer, and commercialization.

At OsteoCentric, engineers don't spend their days making minor revisions to legacy products. Our team works on challenging technical problems, develops new technologies, collaborates directly with surgeons and leadership, and has the opportunity to see their work move from an initial concept into the operating room.

We recognize that great engineers come from a variety of backgrounds and career paths. If you have direct medical device product development experience and are excited about the opportunity, we encourage you to apply. We are intentionally keeping this position open-level and will align title and responsibilities with the experience and capabilities of the selected candidate.

This role is fully onsite at our North Austin office.

What You'll DoProduct Development
  • Develop innovative product concepts and engineering solutions for medical device applications.
  • Translate clinical, user, and business needs into practical product designs.
  • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Perform engineering analyses including FEA, tolerance stack analysis, material selection, risk assessments, and failure investigations.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and collaborate with manufacturing partners to optimize designs.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation testing.
  • Analyze data, draw conclusions, and communicate results through technical reports and presentations.
  • Create and maintain design documentation and Design History Files in accordance with company procedures.
  • Participate in cadaver labs, surgical observations, product evaluations, and industry events.
  • Support design transfer and commercialization activities.
  • Contribute to sustaining engineering efforts including product improvements, complaint investigations, and engineering changes.
Project Leadership
  • Participate in project planning and execution activities across multiple development programs.
  • Coordinate activities with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Lead portions of development projects or entire projects depending on experience and level.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and organizational growth.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Work closely with engineers, surgeons, manufacturing partners, quality, regulatory, and commercial teams.
  • Communicate project status, technical challenges, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Present technical information to project teams and leadership.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced team members as appropriate.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of direct medical device product development experience.
  • Experience supporting products through multiple phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Experience developing and executing engineering test plans.
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
Preferred:

  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and surgical procedures.
  • Experience working within FDA-regulated product development environments.
  • Experience leading projects or mentoring engineers.
