Job Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the NPD Design Engineer role is a perfect opportunity for engineers with design experience that are comfortable overseeing a wider set of projects, with each project involving a lighter amount of engineering than is typical with a new product development. This is an exciting and highly visible role in the organization, so weโ€™re looking for flexible team members whose experience and initiative will further define the job opportunity.

The NPD Design Engineer will work cross-functionally to implement new products that may include strategic partnerships, vertical integration, and/or insourcing activities. He/she will be part of a wider engineering team, working across multiple electrical apparatus and component product lines to deliver new products and product enhancements. This position will have access to resources throughout the enterprise and will be based in Greeneville, TN. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and high energy, with a history of exhibiting a high attention to detail.

This role will be onsite in Greeneville, TN. Relocation Assistance is available.


  • Contribute to development of electromechanical systems. Includes design, prototyping, production, and test.
  • Analysis of electrical systems via classical and computer methods.
  • Interfacing with vendors to assure proper manufacture of components.
  • Ability for limited travel.
  • Hands-on assembly and physical production of electromechanical systems.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, team player.

  • An Electrical Engineering degree is required for this role. 
  • The ideal candidate will possess between 3 to 5 years of engineering experience, with a demonstrated history of delivering projects.
  • The ideal candidate will possess some knowledge of electrical or electromechanical product development.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to schedule and work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers.
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling software.
  • Ability to lead a project and or program in a technical space.
  • Experience breaking down high level projects into smaller executable pieces.
  • High degree of self-motivation coupled with a history of following-through on projects.
  • Industry knowledge of design requirements for electrical distribution equipment, including an understanding of compliance to ANSI and IEEE specifications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate the bigger picture.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and our supply chain.
  • Experience working/contributing across the total product lifecycle from concept to end-of-life.
