About the Role

Blueland is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Technician, R&D to support the development, testing, scale-up, and launch of new and existing products. This role will report to the Director of Formulation and support line trial samples, stability testing, scale-up activities, and cross-functional project execution.

The Lab Technician will play an important role in the R&D lab by preparing samples, conducting experiments, documenting results, organizing data, and helping move projects from concept through commercialization. In addition to supporting formulation and stability work, this person will also have the opportunity to manage their own R&D workstreams, including line extensions and limited-edition product launches.

The ideal candidate is curious, hands-on, organized, and excited to build a career in R&D. They enjoy working in the lab, learning from experienced formulation and stability leaders, and contributing to projects that move quickly from idea to launch. They are comfortable handling samples, tracking data, communicating updates, and supporting both technical and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Lab & Formulation Support

  • Prepare lab batches, line trial samples, prototypes, and experimental formulas under the guidance of the Director of Formulation. 

  • Support formulation development, product testing, and troubleshooting for new products, line extensions, and limited-edition launches. 

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment in accordance with internal lab standards and safety practices. 

Sustainability, Line Trials & Scale-Up

  • Work closely with the Director of Formulation to prepare, monitor, and organize stability samples and line trial samples. 

  • Support stability testing by documenting sample appearance, performance, packaging compatibility, and other required observations. 

  • Assist with scale-up activities by preparing samples, collecting data, and supporting trial documentation. 

  • Help organize and track samples related to pilot batches, production trials, and commercialization timelines. 

  • Communicate observations, risks, or deviations from expected results to the Director of Formulation and relevant project stakeholders. 

Project Ownership

  • Support and manage defined R&D projects such as line extensions, limited-edition launches, reformulations, and product improvements. 

  • Help move assigned projects through key development stages, including prototype creation, testing, data organization, and sample handoff. 

  • Maintain accurate timelines, sample records, and project updates for assigned workstreams. 

  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Packaging, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to share R&D updates and sample data. 

Data, Documentation & Communication

  • Record experimental procedures, formulas, observations, test results, and conclusions clearly and accurately. 

  • Organize and share lab data with cross-functional team members in a timely and easy-to-understand format. 

  • Prepare summary reports, sample trackers, and testing updates for internal review. 

  • Support the Director of Formulation with project tracking, technical documentation, and sample management. 

  • Ensure all work is documented consistently and follows internal R&D processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field. 

  • 1+ year of experience in a laboratory setting, including academic, internship, co-op, or professional lab experience. 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions, test methods, and lab protocols. 

  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple samples, timelines, and priorities. 

  • Comfortable documenting data, observations, and results clearly and accurately. 

  • Willingness to learn, grow, ask questions, and take on increasing responsibility over time. 

  • Ability to communicate findings and share data with cross-functional team members. 

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving project needs. 

Preferred

  • Experience in formulation, consumer products, personal care, home care, cleaning products, food, cosmetics, or CPG R&D. 

  • Familiarity with stability testing, sample preparation, pilot batches, or production line trials. 

  • Experience using sample trackers, spreadsheets, or basic data reporting tools. 

  • Understanding of general lab safety, chemical handling, and proper sample labeling practices. 

Location & Salary
This position is based out of our lab in Boca Raton, FL working primarily onsite with the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule on occasion. 
The salary range for this position is $70,000-115,000 per year.
