Job description

Fresh Business Manager

Work with the COO to build, direct and manage the fresh business for the company and develop departmental strategy and business objectives. Will have direct responsibility and oversight for the Category Managers and teams supporting Produce, Meat, Seafood, Deli & Bakery.

Drive standardization of department processes and procedures. Develop and improve tools to support accurate and efficient ordering. Analyze and utilize consumer data to guide merchandising and pricing strategies and decision making across all channels of business to ensure sourcing and purchasing meets sales and margin goals.

Partner with cross-functional leadership teams to develop efficient campaign strategies that drive traffic, conversion and sales and lead purchasing team in management of work to achieve objectives. Ongoing assessment of product category mix by identifying opportunities and downward trends and developing initiatives for future seasons. Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for all levels of purchasing activities. Reduce vendor risks by developing scorecards and analyzing vendor performance.

Support Corporate and Store Teams. Provide direction on department goals and formulate plan to achieve them. Manage and mentor corporate teams. Provide active involvement in creating and maintaining Fresh Department standards of operations. Active follow up with instore operations teams and Fresh Department Merchandisers. Consistently follow up with managers to ensure purchases are made in a timely and efficient way. Ensure product availability and elimination of out-of-stocks.

Establish and maintain effective communication, aligned work goals and team-based relationship with Director of Food / Consumables and VP of Operations. Act as liaison with Corporate and Operational departments. Address all problems / issues in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement. Develop and maintain relationship with Operations teams to improve implementation of purchasing initiatives.

Drive Talent Management and People Development for the department. Coordinate with Human Resources to strategize on staffing and turnover issues. Ensure Team Members are fully trained to effectively execute duties. Provide Team Members with all tools necessary to effectively execute duties. Develop and enforce systems that drive performance. Hold Team Members accountable.

10+ years of progressive experience in Perishable Department purchasing, sourcing and instore operations. Proficient in business, pricing and assortment analytics. Skilled in Microsoft office products and ability to work with established purchasing / ERP software systems. Goal oriented with a team-based approach. Excellent motivator and communicator.
