SUMMARY
Perform product engineering functions as directed by the engineering manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Is able to mentor other team members as directed by Engineering Manager.
  • Supports Product strategy activities as directed by Engineering Manager.
  • Responsible for product design, engineering and development of assigned programs.
  • Creates and maintains DFMEA.
  • Initiates, Writes and Complete Engineering Change Notices for engineering changes.
  • Works closely and provides design scope and direction/mark-ups to the Designer Engineer in the programs assigned
  • Leads multi-disciplined design reviews on programs assigned per the STRATTEC Design Review Process.
  • Understands, interprets, and applies design solutions based on CAE analyses (ie. FEAs, MoldFlows, Light Simulations, etc.).
  • Maintains BOM on assigned products (current and new pursuits).
  • Coordinates and leads prototype builds on assigned programs, including development of prototype build control plan.
  • Works closely with manufacturing engineers, supplier quality and purchasing departments on components sourcing and procurement.
  • Performs Design Review by Test Result (DRBTR) teardown analysis of passing and failing test parts.
  • Performs robust root cause analysis for validation test and/or production/warranty issues.
  • Monitors assigned programs' PDP deliverables status and reports this information to Engineering Manager and Program Manager.
  • Represents STRATTEC in Program Development Team meetings with customer.
  • Utilizes the STRATTEC Program Development Process (PDP) for program implementation.
  • Utilizes the STRATTEC Knowledge Management System (VKMS) for communicating engineering-related program deliverables and documentation of engineering evidence for audits.
  • Reports progress to manager both verbally and in writing as required.
  • Generates and implements VA/VE cost reduction ideas on a frequent basis.
  • Uses engineering tools and methods to assure design quality, mentors others in their use and learning of these tools.
  • Periodic travel to customer, suppliers, other STRATTEC facilities is required (~15%).
  • Leads STRATTEC initiatives and global projects as required.
  • Supports new RFQ business pursuits as required.
  • Interfaces with global customers, partners, and suppliers as required.
  • Understands, reviews and applies customer specifications and requirements, supports RAR meetings
  • Is able to understand cosmetic and appearance customer expectations and A-Surface CAD
  • Conducts and facilitates high quality benchmarking of competitor products.
  • Continuously stays atop of the industry trends and performs engineering market and patent researches.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be able to conceptualize, plan and develop small electro-mechanical, mechatronic devices and mechanisms.
  • Must be able to perform strength of materials and static force calculations.
  • Must have the ability to design springs and perform spring force/stress calculations is required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude to work with tools in tearing down product assemblies.
  • Must be able to multi-task, plan and organize work efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to work in a cross functional team and be able to effectively and timely communicate ideas.
  • Must be able to present engineering data, design concepts and solutions, and progress directly to customers.
  • Must be self-sufficient and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well emotional intelligence.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Must have experience with DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFE, DFx.
  • Must have experience with decorative, Class A surface appearance, AAR, ATAR products and processes
  • Must have experience with automotive OEM PPAP process
  • Must have experience in performing tolerance stacks, complete and review complex stacks of assigned products.
  • Must have experience dimensioning and applying geometric tolerances to components and assemblies.
  • Must have a working knowledge of GD&T ASME Y14.5 (or newer) rules, meanings and principles.
  • Must have experience with design for manufacturability/assembly (mechanisms, metal stampings, functional and decorative plastic injection molded parts, decorative die cast parts, PCBA assemblies, silicone parts, etc).
  • Must have 3D modeling experience (Pro-E or UG/NX).
  • Must have experience in formal root cause analysis methodology. Either proficiency in Red X or 8D is required.
  • Must have experience in working with CAE analysis team (FEA, ADAMS, Moldflows, Light Simulations, etc).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering degree is required.
  • 5-15 years minimum experience in product development required.
  • Previous project leadership required.
  • Product design experience in keyfobs, smart keys, interior switches, mechatronic and electro-mechanical systems is required.
  • English-Spanish Bilingual is a plus
