They work at the intersection of design, technology, and business to develop products that are visually appealing, user-friendly, and meet market needs. Their responsibilities typically include conducting user research, creating prototypes, collaborating with engineers, and iterating designs based on feedback. Product Designers often work on digital products like apps and websites, but their skills can extend to physical products as well.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Designer, you need a strong foundation in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, visual communication, and problem-solving, typically supported by a degree in design or a related field. Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping software is essential, along with familiarity with user research methods. Job description

Asana is looking for a Senior Product Designer to help shape the future of onboarding and user adoption in the age of AI. In this role, you'll design intelligent, adaptive experiences that help new users quickly realize value through AI-powered workflows, guidance, and personalization.
You'll work at the intersection of product design, AI interaction design, and rapid product exploration, partnering closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and data scientists to prototype, test, and evolve ideas quickly. We're looking for a designer who is energized by ambiguity, excited about emerging AI capabilities, and eager to explore ideas collaboratively through making.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, loves using prototypes to think and communicate, is energized by experimentation and iterative learning, and is excited by a highly collaborative product development process where ideas evolve continuously across disciplines.
This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.

We're a diverse group of designers from different backgrounds (product, brand and content design, design operations, producers, motion design, film, copywriting). We are a team that loves combining research, data insights, and peer feedback into a human-centered design process to produce designs that are core to the power of our applications. We partner with people across Asana to create our product, shape our brand, and drive greater impact through design. We use design to solve challenges and create experiences that customers love. We also take the time to get weird and have fun along the way.
Learn more about our team:
  • Asana Design

Asana culture:

  • How we've designed a culture that fuels our business results

What you'll achieve
  • Design and iterate on onboarding and adoption experiences that help users quickly discover value in Asana (where design craft and clarity are especially critical), including AI-powered and personalized workflows.
  • Rapidly prototype concepts, interactions, and product directions to explore ideas, communicate thinking, and accelerate learning across the team.
  • Partner closely with product managers and engineers in a highly iterative product development process, building on ideas together through continuous experimentation and refinement.
  • Stay current on emerging AI and LLM capabilities, translating new interaction patterns and technologies into thoughtful product experiences.
  • Use qualitative insights, experimentation, and product data to inform design decisions, optimize user journeys, and uncover new opportunities for growth.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our design system and interaction patterns, ensuring experiences remain cohesive, scalable, and high quality across surfaces.

About you
  • 5+ years of experience in product design, with a portfolio that demonstrates strong thinking, craft, and iteration across onboarding, growth, or AI-powered product experiences.
  • Deep curiosity about AI products and interaction patterns, with an active interest in the latest LLM capabilities, tools, and emerging user behaviors.
  • Strong prototyping skills and a maker mindset. You use prototypes regularly to explore ideas, test concepts, and drive collaboration.
  • Excited by highly collaborative product development and comfortable working closely with PMs and engineers throughout ideation and iteration.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, moving quickly, and balancing incremental optimization work with longer-term product exploration.
  • Exceptional visual and interaction design craft, with the ability to create polished, intuitive, and high-quality product experiences across every stage of the user journey.

At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
What we'll offer
Our comprehensive compensation package plays a big part in how we recognize you for the impact you have on our path to achieving our mission. We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.
