Enjoy Customer Service! We have a full-time position available as a Produce Department Lead in our Lake Shore Green Valley Marketplace, located at 4681 Mountain Road in Lake Shore area of Pasadena.

Our Produce Department Lead oversees the produce department, managing inventory, staff, product quality, and sales through merchandising, ordering, staff training, and customer service. Key responsibilities include maintaining produce freshness and appearance, developing sales strategies with appealing displays, managing department staff, controlling costs and waste, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Promotes and maintains B. Greenโ€™s mission, values, and culture. Provides exceptional communication and service to internal and external customers.

Essential Duties:

  • Providing responsive, exceptional service to Produce customers by answering questions, making recommendations, and responding to requests.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage, motivate, and train produce staff. Forming a team focused on exceptional customer service and high-quality product.
  • Train, schedule, supervise, and motivate produce department staff to meet department goals for sales and customer service.
  • Assist store management in the hiring process and provide continuous employee performance feedback.
  • Responsible for inventory management, utilizing ordering guidelines and updates from corporate leadership. Order and receive fresh produce, monitor inventory, rotate product displays to ensure freshness, cull as necessary, and manage spoilage to maximize profitability and meet shrink goals.
  • Create and maintain appealing merchandise displays ensure only high-quality products are presented.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of fresh produce, product handling, storage, seasonal cycles, and quality standards.
  • Following all food safety and sanitation procedures established by the company and other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Stand in designating work area for duration of scheduled shift, which may exceed 8 hours per day.
  • When required, price items accurately and legibly using approved price marking devices.
  • Ensure that featured sale merchandise is attractively signed to stimulate sales.
  • Accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, and bad merchandise/ spoilage write offs in accordance with Company Shrink policies.
  • Unload and secure received products in appropriate dry or refrigerated storage areas using power or hand jack, carts, or U-boats as needed.
  • Regularly lift, pull, push, and rotate merchandise that weights 25 lbs. and that occasionally weights 50 lbs.
  • Be alert to temperatures and operating condition of refrigerated storage areas and display cases; promptly communicate any problems or failure to key person in charge.
  • Complete all applicable department training programs.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with B. Green & Company, Inc. Policy and Procedures, Safety Procedures. Maintain required communication within the department and Company.
  • Dress and groom according to company policy including uniform, name badge and hat or hair restraint requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines as relates to Produce Department operations.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance, work overtime as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred, not required.
  • 0-2 years customer service experience, Produce in a Grocery Store or Retail preferred.
  • 1 year experience working in Department leadership strongly preferred.
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language. Ability to perform basic math, and basic computer functions
  • Ability to engage and lead Associates to achieve department goals. Work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions, must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Excellent customer service skills in order to work with a diverse population
  • Able to work a varied work schedule that changes, and a variety of shifts including peek times.
  • Attention to detail and able to learn where store products are located to provide information to customers.

The incumbent must have:

  • Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift. Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs is required.
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures. Ability to work in refrigerated coolers and high moisture rooms for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racking and storage areas.
  • Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.

Work Environment: Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work environment is based in a retail store. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Work Schedule: Full time role to equate to 5 days a week, 9 hour shifts, 45 hours a week or more. Hours may fluctuate based upon business needs. Must have ability to work a varied work schedule that changes, and a variety of shifts.
