What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Procurement Logistics Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Procurement Logistics Specialist, you need expertise in supply chain management, vendor negotiation, inventory control, and typically a relevant degree in business, logistics, or supply chain. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP, procurement software, and certifications such as CPSM or APICS are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you build relationships and manage complex logistics challenges. These skills ensure cost-effective procurement, timely delivery, and smooth operations within the supply chain.

What are the 4 types of procurement?

The four main types of procurement are direct procurement, which involves purchasing goods and services for production; indirect procurement, covering items not directly used in production but necessary for operations; services procurement, focused on acquiring services like consulting or maintenance; and strategic procurement, which emphasizes long-term supplier relationships and cost management. Procurement professionals often use tools like procurement software and may pursue certifications such as CPSM to enhance their skills.

Job description

Senior Associate Supply Chain & Logistics, Retail
This is a hybrid role to the HelloFresh Headquarters in either NYC or Chicago, IL
Factor's Retail business is scaling from pilot to national expansion. As we grow with Target and develop future accounts across club, grocery, and specialty retail, the team needs strong day-to-day supply chain and logistics support to ensure what we sell can be produced, shipped, received, and executed reliably.
We are hiring a Sr. Associate, Supply Chain & Logistics to support Retail operational execution under the Head of Supply Chain & Logistics, Factor New Channels. This person will help coordinate production readiness, logistics follow-through, shipment tracking, retailer DC execution, item setup support, operational issue tracking, and cross-functional communication across Retail, Supply Chain, Production, Procurement, Logistics, and Sales.
This is an execution-heavy role for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable with operational data, and motivated by making sure the plan actually works in the real world.
You will...
  • Support day-to-day Retail supply chain and logistics execution across Target and future retail accounts.
  • Track retail production readiness, shipment timing, logistics milestones, delivery status, retailer DC requirements, and service-level risks.
  • Coordinate with production, procurement, logistics, co-manufacturing, and internal supply chain teams to ensure retail commitments are operationally supported.
  • Maintain operational trackers for POs, shipments, DC appointments, inventory risks, short shipments, service issues, and open action items.
  • Support issue resolution when shipments, appointments, retailer receiving requirements, inventory, shelf-life, or service-level issues arise.
  • Help prepare operational inputs for weekly commercial / supply chain meetings, monthly performance reviews, and launch readiness check-ins.
  • Support item setup and operational data workflows, including UPC / GTIN / SCC coordination, shipment data, logistics requirements, and retailer readiness inputs
  • Partner with Sales Strategy & Planning on forecast reconciliation, launch timing, promotional volume readiness, and operational implications of commercial changes.
  • Support new item launches and new account launches by tracking operational milestones, dependencies, and readiness risks.
  • Help document repeatable SOPs for retail logistics, shipment tracking, issue escalation, item setup coordination, and launch readiness as the business scales.
You are...
  • Highly organized: you can manage many moving pieces, deadlines, trackers, and stakeholders without losing details.
  • Operationally minded: you care about whether plans are feasible, shipments arrive on time, data is accurate, and issues are resolved quickly.
  • Detail-oriented: you notice mismatches, missing inputs, unclear owners, and operational risks before they become bigger problems.
  • A strong communicator: you can send clear updates, document decisions, and keep cross-functional partners aligned.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: you can work in a fast-moving environment where processes are still being built.
  • Data-capable: you are comfortable working in spreadsheets, trackers, dashboards, and operational reports.
  • Proactive: you follow up, close loops, and escalate risks early.
  • Team-oriented: you work well across Supply Chain, Production, Procurement, Logistics, Sales, Planning, Finance, and Business Operations.
You have...
  • 3+ years of experience in supply chain, logistics, operations, procurement, production planning, retail operations, CPG operations, consulting, or a related field.
  • Experience managing trackers, operational data, shipment details, inventory, POs, production milestones, or cross-functional project plans.
  • Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills and comfort working with operational data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize issues clearly and drive follow-up.
  • Experience in CPG, food, grocery, fresh / refrigerated products, logistics, fulfillment, or manufacturing is a plus.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and ownership mindset.
  • BA/BS preferred in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field.

You'll get...
  • Competitive hourly rate, 401K company match that vests immediately upon participation, & team bonus opportunities
  • Generous PTO and flexible attendance policy
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits with options at $0 monthly, effective first day of employment
  • Up to 85% discount on subscriptions to HelloFresh meal plans (HelloFresh, Green Chef, Everyplate, and Factor_)
  • Access to Employee Resource Groups that are open to all employees, including those pertaining to BIPOC, women, veterans, parents, and LGBTQ+
  • Inclusive, collaborative, and dynamic work environment within a fast-paced, mission-driven company that is disrupting the traditional food supply chain
