Job description

The Plant Superintendent will assist the Plant Manager with managing safety, quality, housekeeping and efficiency in the production, scheduling & shipping departments. The Superintendent will serve as a team leader of the supervision crew. They will provide guidance and motivation to the production supervisors. They will actively cooperate with the customer service, design, and sales teams. The superintendent will make production related decisions in the plant managers place when the plant manager is unavailable.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Tasks related to this position may vary and are not limited to those listed below:
  • Follow and enforce established safety rules, policies and procedures at all times
  • Promote, support and enforce all other established policies and procedures within the division, ensuring best practices are implemented and up to date
  • Ensure all necessary safety documentation is recorded, retained, and updated as necessary
  • Achieve proficiency in and utilize company project management software and other data management systems (i.e. Amtech job costing and RPM modules and UltiPro HRIS)
  • Maintain plant cleanliness and neat and orderly work areas
  • Work from written and verbal instructions
  • Adhere to and enforce company objectives, policies and programs
  • Track waste, returns and allowances and effectively manage overall quality program
  • Establish areas of responsibility for immediate subordinates and give general direction to various departments to ensure adherence to production schedules, standards of performance, quality and safety programs
  • Evaluate associates weaknesses and create improvement plans to suit their individual needs.
  • Carry out corrective action trainings when needed.
  • Provide guidance to the maintenance supervisor on how maintenance can best support the production team.
  • Identify weaknesses in operations processes and collaborate with the plant manager to enact an improvement plan.
  • Ensure that all safety policies are being followed.
  • Actively look for ways to create a safer work environment through JSA's, hazard elimination, and education.
  • Participate in job process meetings for new and existing orders with the goal of eliminating manufacturing issues before orders hit the plant floor.
  • Coordinate with the shipping supervisor and scheduler to ensure on time deliveries to customers.
  • Direct production, maintenance and shipping team with production requirements, equipment utilization, quality/quantity standards, safety/housekeeping, equipment repair and maintenance
  • Ensure best practices are followed that support positive workplace culture and associate morale
  • Analyze reports and financial statements indicating manpower, attendance, job bidding, labor costs, overtime, equipment efficiencies, production shipments, etc.
  • Investigate, determine and implement corrective measures to improve operations deviating from established standards
  • Develop and implement improvements for methods, equipment, material handling techniques and similar projects
  • Drive inventory management and track industry news and pricing of all necessary supplies such as ink, skids and adhesives
  • Oversee and direct supervisors with associate performance and disciplinary management and make effective recommendations for discipline, promotion, transfer or termination
  • Staff, train and mentor production, maintenance and shipping supervisors, preparing them for new responsibilities and future challenges
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Full-time role in a manufacturing plant/warehouse setting

Skill Set:
  • Ability to drive results, problem solve and lead others in situations lacking necessary detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication and mentoring skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Qualifications Desired:
  • 5 years of experience in a production/manufacturing environment
  • 3-5 years of experience as a production supervisor or manager
Experience in the corrugated packaging industry highly preferred
