Job description

job purpose:

The Engineering and Reliability Manager is responsible for the overall reliability of plant processing equipment. They will lead a technical team; driving improvements, capital projects, and engineered solutions for all plant processing equipment. With a detailed, analytical, and collaborative approach this individual will direct team activities targeted at reducing top losses. The Engineering and Reliability Manager will also partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams to provide technical direction and expertise. 

responsibilities: 

  • Manage a technical team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Own the 90-day plan projects and cadence 
  • Serve as a technical expert for plant processing equipment in all disciplines of engineering, maintenance, and production. 
  • Engineer and implement robust controls, strategies, and solutions to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency. 
  • Lead reliability routines and initiatives (root cause analysis, breakdown analysis, and MTBF analysis). 
  • Develop, design, and deploy predictive maintenance and situational awareness technologies. 
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to Maintenance teams on preventative maintenance programs. 
  • Guide the planning and implementation of capital projects with engineers and project managers. 
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation throughout the entire facility. 
  • Work with plant vendors to reverse engineer and source critical components. 
  • Provide technical support where necessary. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

skills/qualifications required: 

  • Professional, positive, organized, and ability to collaborate with others. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (mechanical, chemical, or manufacturing) or equivalent experience. 
  • 10+ years of related engineering and manufacturing experience. 
  • Proven team leader committed to fostering a culture of technical development and teamwork. 
  • Experienced project manager. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools, strategies, and data to solve complex technical issues. 
  • Hands-on experience with and solid technical understanding of processing equipment (PLCs, instrumentation, actuators, valves, pumps, motors, and mechanisms). 
  • Capacity to drive strategic growth through the training and development of technical personnel. 
  • Able to read, interpret, and update engineering schematics (mechanical, P&ID, and electrical). 
  • PLC programming experience a plus. 
  • Experience with CMMS software. 
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment. 
  • Food and Beverage experience is a plus, specifically dairy processing. 

working conditions and physical requirements: 

  • Able to work nights/weekends as business needs require 
  • Participate in on call rotation 
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, lift a minimum of 40 lbs. on an occasional basis, and able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 75 feet 
  • Reaching/bending requirements - able to reach and bend as needed 
  • Exposure to hazards - Machinery, confined spaces, etc. 
  • Any other physical requirements

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety. 
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas. 
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company. 
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system. 
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system. 
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected. 
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
