Job description

Job Summary:
The Waterfront Rescue Mission, recognized in 2025 as one of the Best Christian Workplaces in the country, is hiring a positive, highly productive, safety-minded and team oriented Furniture Processor. Under the supervision of management receives furniture donations from donor at store location, assists in unloading furniture donations from the truck and prepares donations for presort process. Once furniture is sold, assists customers in loading furniture into customer's vehicle. Removes waste from warehouse and performs all reasonably related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Ability to read and write and up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid state driverâ€'s license and be insurable by the WRM insurance carrier. Must be able to make adjustments to timing (speed of handling) and placement of donations as the volume and frequency of donations change throughout the day.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service while assisting customers and donors
  • Genuine customer greeting with eye contact
  • Accepts donations according to WRM guidelines
  • Assists with loading or unloading furniture
  • Thank the customer and invite them to return
  • Provide WRM donation receipts or handouts
  • Unload truck contents and place in designated area
  • Load designated shipments onto RDC trucks
  • Process recyclables
  • Empty all trash containers
  • Dispose of unsaleable donations according to recycling guide
  • Sweep/clean dock/warehouse/exterior of building
  • Proper loading of open air dumpsters according to established guidelines
  • Keep areas around dumpsters free of clutter
  • Practice all safety standards and procedures as outlined by WRM
  • Practice safe lifting techniques
  • Use proper tools for lifting heavy merchandise
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other Mission management.
