JOB SUMMARY
The Refinery Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) process subject matter expert uses understanding of process fundamentals, process equipment, refinery practices, and the FCC technology to ensure safe, environmentally friendly, reliable, and optimal refinery operation while coordinating and influencing the achievement of these objectives utilizing data driven critical thinking.
All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, and vision of the organization. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • 12 (twelve) or more years process engineering experience or equivalent ability in refining industry (Required)

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Trains, mentors and coaches less experienced process engineers (i.e., troubleshooting and optimization assistance for operations, process operations analysis, economic evaluation, etc.)
  • Oversees daily performance monitoring efforts by younger engineers
  • Maintains process unit health indicators and provides oversight for younger engineers as they analyze, interpret, and disseminates performance indicators and unit operations data for assigned units
  • Identifies short- and long-term process changes to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency
  • Exhibits strong engineering judgment in equipment design and process development to compromise between process requirements, economics, operator effectiveness and environment/safety objectives
  • Presents all general sections and some unit specific sections of operator process training classes, approves process portions in Management of Change (MOC) development, perform process engineering duties in a process hazard analysis (PHAs) on complex units
  • Expertly understands and utilizes process unit operating manuals
  • Provides feedback for the improvement of company process guides and best practices
  • Develops and maintains critical cross-functional relationships (i.e., refinery economics, operations, lab, maintenance, refinery leadership, etc.) to optimize unit performance to constraints
  • Collaborates with refinery's Commercial group to ensure unit constraints and yields are accurately reflected in refinery's linear programming model and disseminates individual unit's economic values to Operations and refinery management

FCC SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Expertise in the design, operation, and optimization of Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) units.
  • Proficiency in process modeling software (Hysys, Pro/II, or similar)
  • In-depth understanding of catalyst selection, management, and performance optimization
  • Familiarity with hydrocarbon cracking, reaction mechanisms, and product yield maximization
  • Experience with associated unit operations, such as fractionation, regeneration, and gas recovery systems
  • Hands-on experience operating FCC units, including start-up, shut-down, and steady-state operations
  • Proven ability to optimize FCC unit performance to maximize output, product quality, and energy efficiency
  • Experience in planning and executing turnarounds, inspections, and maintenance of FCC units
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot process upsets, mechanical issues, and catalyst performance problems
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and regulatory compliance
  • Experience participating in or leading Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and layers of protection analysis (LOPA) for FCC units
  • Expertise in analyzing operational data to identify trends and make informed recommendations for improvements
