Job description

At KARL STORZ, we're dedicated to advancing medical technology and improving patient care. We're seeking a talented Senior Image Processing Engineer to join our team and play a key role in developing cutting-edge camera image processing solutions for medical devices.

 

About the Role

As a Senior Image Processing Engineer, you'll design, analyze, and implement advanced image and video processing methods for our camera products. You will utilize the latest technologies, including in Image Processing, Digital Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence. You'll lead the development of innovative solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior engineers. Your expertise will directly impact the quality of medical imaging and patient care.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement image processing algorithms for camera systems
  • Perform system modeling, signal analysis, and characterization of imaging sensors
  • Develop and implement new features using classical DSP methods and/or Machine Learning models.
  • Design and verify FPGA-based modules using MATLAB-Simulink and/or GPU-based modules using CUDA and other tools.
  • Collaborate with project teams to define IP design architecture and ensure product quality
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Support existing product lines and perform competitive evaluations

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Signal Processing emphasis) or equivalent
  • 10-12 years of experience in image processing or related field
  • Strong knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards
  • Experience with real-time algorithm development using MATLAB-Simulink, FPGA and/or GPU design tools.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

 

Nice to Have

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Image Processing or Digital Signal Processing
  • Experience with C, C++, CUDA, OpenCL, OpenGL, or OpenCV
  • Familiarity with endoscopy and digital system design

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and lift video equipment (approx. 20 lbs.)
