Job Requirements

Join the University of Maryland Medical System and make an impact behind every successful surgery. We are seeking an experienced Manager, Central Sterile Processing to lead our multi-site Central Sterile Processing (CSP) operations and support the teams delivering exceptional surgical care every day.

This role provides leadership and operational oversight of Central Sterile Processing services at both Capital Region Medical Center and Laurel Medical Center, with regular travel between both locations required.


In this leadership role, you will oversee daily operations, staff, workflow, instrumentation, inventory, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement. You will ensure surgical instruments and equipment are processed safely,

efficiently, and consistently while maintaining the inventory and operational readiness needed to support our Operating Room, Surgical Services, and patient care teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.

  • Lead and supervise Central Sterile Processing staff, including staffing, scheduling, performance management, coaching, training, and development.
  • Oversee decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution processes to ensure compliance with established regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Ensure timely instrumentation turnover and collaborate with Operating Room leadership regarding instrument availability, replacement, functionality, and set completeness.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory and par levels for sterile instrumentation, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor multi-site CSP operations to ensure adequate staffing, workflow, productivity, and service coverage.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead departmental quality assurance, performance improvement, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze operational data, identify trends and opportunities, and implement measurable improvement plans.
  • Assist with operational and capital budget planning, supply utilization, equipment needs, and cost-management initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with Perioperative Services leadership, Materials Management, Facility Support Services, vendors, and other hospital departments.
  • Ensure staff maintain required competencies, education, certifications, and departmental training requirements.
  • Support recruitment, interviewing, hiring, employee evaluations, corrective action, and staff development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Licensure & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related discipline, Systems Engineering, or related field, required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of sterile processing supervisory experience required, including at least two (2) years as a Central Sterile Processing Manager or equivalent leadership experience/training.
  • CRCST or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification, required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of sterile processing standards, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and performance improvement.
  • Ability to effectively manage multi-site operations and travel between work locations as required.
  • Occasional business travel outside the region may be required.
