What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in chemical or process engineering, proficiency in mathematical modeling, and typically a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation software such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or MATLAB, as well as knowledge of process control systems, is essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you interpret complex data and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure accurate process optimization, improved system performance, and successful project outcomes in industrial environments.

What are some typical challenges a Process Simulation Engineer faces when integrating simulation models into existing operations?

A common challenge for Process Simulation Engineers is ensuring that simulation models accurately reflect real-world plant operations, which often involves dealing with incomplete or outdated process data. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as operations, process design, and IT, is crucial for gathering accurate information and validating models. Additionally, integrating simulation results into operational decision-making can require effective communication to bridge the gap between technical modeling and practical application. Successful engineers are adept at troubleshooting discrepancies and adapting models to evolving process requirements.

What are Process Simulation Engineers?

Process Simulation Engineers are professionals who use advanced computer modeling and simulation software to design, analyze, and optimize industrial processes, particularly in fields like chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing. They create virtual models of production systems to predict performance, troubleshoot issues, and propose improvements before implementation in the real world. Their work helps companies increase efficiency, reduce costs, ensure safety, and comply with environmental regulations.

What is the difference between Process Simulation Engineer vs Chemical Process Engineer?

AspectProcess Simulation EngineerChemical Process Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering or related field; proficiency in simulation softwareBachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering; often includes process design experience

Job description

Bradken is a global manufacturer of custom-engineered products and solutions for the resources sector. Our products operate in some of the toughest mining environments, where performance, reliability and practical engineering support matter.

We are seeking an Application Engineer to support our Mining product lines, with a primary focus on Crawler Systems and broader support across Buckets and Ground Engaging Tools for electric rope shovels and hydraulic excavators.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing engineering role. You will work closely with customers, Sales, Product Design, Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to understand site issues, support product performance and help turn field feedback into practical engineering solutions.

The role includes regular customer site travel, expected to be around 50-75%.

About the role

As an Application Engineer, you will provide technical support across Bradken's mining products, from site-based problem solving through to product updates, reverse engineering and new product development.

You will help capture customer requirements, provide engineering input, support field evaluations and ensure technical information is shared clearly across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for mining customers and regional Sales teams.
  • Support product performance reviews, field evaluations and warranty-related technical analysis.
  • Assist with product design, customisation, reverse engineering and product improvement work.
  • Prepare solid models, drawings, analysis/simulation inputs and technical documentation.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure products can be designed, manufactured and delivered to customer requirements.
  • Support product trials, testing, validation and customer feedback.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, customer outcomes and Bradken's engineering standards.

About you

You are a practical Mechanical Engineer who can work confidently with customers, technical teams and site-based challenges.

You bring strong problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgement and the ability to communicate technical information clearly. You are comfortable moving between design work, product support and customer-facing conversations.

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in design, reliability, application engineering or a related technical role.
  • Experience in mining, construction equipment, heavy manufacturing or similar industrial environments.
  • Product design, product development or project delivery experience.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD and FEA software.
  • A current driver's licence and ability to travel locally and regionally.
  • Spanish and/or French language capability would be advantageous.

Experience with Siemens NX, ANSYS, Siemens Teamcenter PLM or 3D scanning will be highly regarded.

Knowledge of surface mining equipment, mine site requirements and MSHA or relevant regional mine hazard training will also be valued.

Applicants must currently hold full, unrestricted work authorisation in Canada. Bradken is unable to support work permit, LMIA or employer-sponsored immigration processes for this role.

Why join Bradken

This role gives you the chance to stay close to the field, work on real mining equipment challenges and contribute to product improvements that matter to customers.

You will be part of a global business where engineering, customer focus and practical problem solving come together.

If you are interested in joining a team that is making a significant impact in the industry, we invite you to submit your application, along with your resume and a concise cover letter outlining why this position aligns with your career aspirations.ย Shortlisting for candidates will commence immediately.
