Summary:

A company's Safety Coordinator establishes and oversees the health and safety processes for the organization. They take into consideration industry regulations and the specific risks in your workplace to ensure normal work activities are handled safely. They train employees in safety protocols and enforce them if they're not being followed properly. Safety Coordinators also respond when workplace accidents happen, creating reports and determining ways to prevent similar accidents.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and enforces employee health and safety programs and promotes safety awareness to minimize work-related injuries.
  • Comprehends federal, state, and local safety regulations and ensures that the company is in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) guidelines.
  • Drafts and updates safety training materials and trains staff on safety protocols and preventative measures.
  • Runs risk assessments on workspaces and presents reports to safety managers.
  • Assists with the implementation of new safety procedures.
  • Performs root cause analysis on accidents and work hazards and proposes corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of OSHA's Safety and Health Fundamentals Certificate Program is preferred.
  • Two years' experience specifically related to managing the organization's risk factors and safety procedures.
  • Understanding of OSHA guidelines and other state and local safety regulations
  • Familiarity with the tools, machines and equipment used in the workplace.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to teach others the established safety standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy skills and comfort with various types of technology used in the industry.
