Description

The Campus Security/Safety Manager is responsible for coordinating and directing the activities of Campus Security/Safety personnel who provide security for the University. Oversees all aspects of campus physical security to ensure the safety of students, patients, visitors, and employees. The Supervisor shall have the ability to work with all elements of the University and its various publics with a direct reporting relationship to the Director of Campus Safety. The position will assist the Director of Campus safety in the reporting of all Clery Act requirements to ensure University Compliance. In addition to the duties customarily considered campus safety functions, the supervisor shall carry out other assigned responsibilities as directed. Additionally, this position is responsible for continuous collaboration with appropriate stakeholders to assess existing processes, research best practices, and will supervise contracted Security Officers assigned to the respective site(s).


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accident, loss, and exposures statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.
  • Assist in the review of injury and property damage reports.
  • Establish and maintain work schedules and assignments of Campus Safety Officers.
  • Coordinate safety activities for emergencies and special University activities.
  • Check premises for fire and safety hazards daily, recommending corrective actions and implement necessary corrective action and preventive measures.
  • Assists in development, distribution and periodic updates of procedural emergency manual and lock down procedures for the Campus/Clinic.
  • Enforce University Vehicle policies and parking regulations.
  • Performs duties as security staff daily.
  • Perform confidential investigations in matters pertaining to alleged losses, thefts, wrongful acts of individuals affecting security, etc. Investigative responsibilities do not extend to matters governed by ATSU Policy 90-210 Prohibition of Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation. Instances of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation must be referred to the Title IX and Civil Rights Coordinator.
  • Check premises for problems such as lighting, overgrown shrubbery obscuring visibility, damage to buildings, etc. Update daily time and activity sheets.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of AEDs and fire extinguishers.
  • Conduct Active Shooter Drills, Fire Drills and Lock in/out drills according to federal and state regulations.
  • Supervise and maintain access control building access card and key control.
  • Develop and execute campus health and safety according to federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to federal and state regulations.
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and regulations by inspecting employees and operations related to environmental health and safety.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and coordinate with Human Resources on any potential worker's compensation claims.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
  • Performs audit of cadavers and testing of air quality in anatomy lab.
  • Conduct periodic inspection of life safety equipment and assist director with local safety authorities on inspection tours.
  • Continually develop and implement of specialized education and training materials.
  • Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information.
  • Direct or assist with Disaster Drills and participate as a member of the Internal Disaster Committee.
  • Assist in developing departmental goals and objectives.
  • Respond to all Alarms in a timely manner and complete fire alarm reports as required.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining Disaster Plans for Security Department.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain emergency command center equipment to include satellite phones.
  • Assist the Director in working with local law enforcement officials and first responders.
  • Serve as an active member on the University Safety Committee and other ad hoc committees as assigned.


Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Two year college degree or equivalent or 3-5 years experience. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge in the following areas: Occupational Safety Health Administration regulations, HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, FERPA - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Proven experience as safety manager. Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines. Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies. Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment. Excellent organizational and motivational skills. 
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Skilled in standards, concepts, practices and procedures within the health, safety and environmental fields. Work independently with limited supervision, maintain accurate records and files. Follow written and oral instructions. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written (training/presentations/report writing). Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • 2 way radio/satellite phone experience
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Must be able to interact effectively with various segments of the public, including but not limited to, ATSU faculty, employees, students, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be reliable, a self-starter, able to work in a fast-paced environment, able to multi-task.
  • Alert at all times and visibly establish the right example for workers.
  • Be diligent, quick to notice and respond to safety issues as they arise.
  • Proactive approach, continuously anticipate potential risk factors on campus.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
