What does a process safety coordinator do?

A Process Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety procedures and practices to prevent accidents and hazardous incidents in industrial or manufacturing settings. They ensure compliance with safety regulations, conduct risk assessments, and coordinate safety training for employees. Additionally, they investigate incidents, maintain safety records, and work closely with management to promote a safe working environment.

To thrive as a Process Safety Coordinator, you need a solid understanding of process safety management, risk assessment, and relevant engineering principles, usually backed by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with safety management systems, hazard analysis tools (such as HAZOP or LOPA), and certifications like CSP or NEBOSH is often required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication skills are essential for influencing safety culture and ensuring compliance.
