Job description

BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both federal and private sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to our clients.
Position Summary
Position Summary
BB&E is currently looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and detail-oriented Environmental Project Manager (PM) to support our federal clients. The PM will work directly with existing staff to ensure high-quality/successful planning, execution, and completion of various projects within financial and schedule expectations. The PM will directly support and report to our Program Managers on all aspects of project delivery, including but not limited to: project planning (such as document preparation, subcontractor procurement, scheduling, coordination), management of field investigation and remediation activities, reporting, client interfacing, and project and financial tracking. The role requires deep, hands-on technical experience that goes beyond basic project implementation and oversight, and the ability to independently identify and address technical deficiencies of CERCLA investigation and remediation work.
This position is based in Northville, MI; Atlanta, GA; Knoxville, TN.
Requirements

  • Perform assigned work in accordance with project schedules, plans, and budgets.
  • Review technical documents for detailed analysis of technical approach, implementability of proposed activities, compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and the ability of the approach to meet project objectives.
  • Develop project plans for clients (e.g., Five Year Reviews, Remedial Process Optimization Reports, Sampling and Analysis Plans, etc.).
  • Critically review contractor work performance, both in the field and in the office, to identify technical deficiencies, recommendations for corrective action, and work plan/UFP-QAPP deviations.
  • Provide site investigation support throughout the entirety of the CERCLA process, including preliminary assessments, site inspections, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial designs, remedial action completion reports, EE/CAs, and TCRAs/NTCRAs.
  • Possess extensive experience with, and the ability to train and/or supervise staff in field sampling activities including soil, sediment, surface water, soil gas/vapor, and groundwater sampling; monitoring well installation; drilling methodologies including HSA, sonic drilling techniques, and DPT; specialized field investigation methods including HPT/HRSC and Vertical Aquifer Sampling; PFAS sampling, characterization, and remediation; and remediation system approaches, design/installation, system reviews, and O&M evaluations.
  • Work with technical, Proposal Management, and Business Development staff to support proposal development.
  • Lead, mentor, and train junior- and mid-level staff to maximize project execution and prepare staff for larger roles within the company.
  • Work with the Leadership Team, Senior Management Team, and staff to ensure BB&E Core Values are upheld.
  • Travel up to 30% of the time.
Key Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) environmental programs, including the Defense Environmental Restoration Program, and familiarity with DoD/AF policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while working effectively with clients and project teams to successfully execute project scope in accordance with client expectations and financial/schedule metrics.
  • Ability to problem-solve and function as a member of a studies/remediation Community of Practice.
  • Technical writing experience, including the ability to document meeting discussions and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Experience managing and executing multi-media investigations involving soil, sediment, surface water, pore water, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
  • Familiarity with various drilling methods, including direct-push technology, hollow-stem auger, sonic, rock coring, and air/mud rotary.
  • Experience managing and supporting investigations involving contaminants including metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
  • Experience with environmental restoration activities performed under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences during regulatory meetings, public meetings, and other stakeholder interactions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously.
Experience, Certification, and Education
Experience:
  • Experience: 12 years' experience as an environmental professional, at a minimum, the last five in consulting industry.
  • Previous project management experience with federal clients is required.
  • Certification and Training: 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required;GIT/PG or EIT/PE ispreferred; OSHA Supervisor Training is preferred; OSHA Construction and General Industry 30-Hour Training is preferred.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Geology (or related science), or other related areas is required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to: stand/walk/kneel/crouch and to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time; operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to travel to meet clients, attend conferences, and conduct site visits.
  • This role is fully on-site and requires working from our Northville, MI, San Antonio, TX , Atlanta, GA or Knoxville, TN office when not traveling.

Work Environment:
  • Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions; occasionally required to navigate rough terrain and operate at heights.
  • PPE & Safety: Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary, typically using gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and steel toe boots; may encounter hazards or contaminants during work tasks.
