Job description
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role description:
Arcadis is looking for a Wastewater Process Project Engineer to join our Resilience Water Team in Orlando, Florida! This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. We offer a flexible hybrid work culture with a balance between remote and in-office work.
The candidate in this role will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge to lead design efforts, mentor young engineers, and successfully execute projects. It also provides an exciting opportunity for an ideal candidate to leverage their experience and relationships to help build and grow our water practice in the Florida region as well as engage on exciting regional and national wastewater planning and design projects
Role accountabilities:
This professional position offers significant growth opportunities for advancement as you support delivery teams and build strong client relationships. You will be part of a dynamic team of engineers, leading wastewater treatment process and mechanical design projects and helping our clients develop sustainable and equitable solutions to the challenges faced by the water industry.
Responsibilities include;
- Provide leadership, technical knowledge and experience to further develop our design team capabilities.
- Lead project tasks, in collaboration with project managers and clients, in the planning, design, permitting and construction of wastewater and/or reclaimed water facilities including but not limited to treatment facilities, creating and/or overseeing the preparation of construction documents (drawings and specifications) and permit applications, as well as supporting construction oversight/administration for both new construction and for rehabilitation work.
- Lead preparation of detailed engineering calculations and analysis, and utilize modeling (e.g., BioWin) and design software, as needed.
- Manage and lead capacity and facility evaluations, as well as master and facility plans for wastewater systems.
- Supervise and support the work of others and mentor junior level engineers and design/drafting technical staff.
- Collaborate with the National Wastewater Practice Leader and the broader National Wastewater Practice network to support technical alignment, share best practices, and contribute to the development of consistent wastewater process approaches across regions.
- External engagement in professional organizations and internal engagement with national practice leadership on research, innovation, and emerging wastewater process technologies, including process optimization, modeling, and advanced treatment concepts, with the potential to help shape future regional and national practice direction.
- Work directly with project managers and area managers to determine needs and provide solutions and participate, as needed, in the preparation of winning proposals and successful presentations, and in the development of project scopes and budgets.
- Some travel may be required to conduct project meetings, site visits, client meetings, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
At least 8 years of experience in water/wastewater process mechanical design is required, including experience leading design projects and managing multi-disciplinary design teams. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, or a related field, is required. Additionally, holding a Professional Engineer (PE) License in Florida or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
Key Skills/Attributes
We are looking for a candidate with strong, clear, and concise written and oral communication skills, along with excellent technical writing abilities. Should have experience managing the preparation, review, and approval of project drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, permit applications, RFIs, as-built drawings, and other relevant design and construction documents. Strong client relationship skills are a plus, as well as a proven track record of successfully delivering various engineering projects that meet client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
It is preferred to have a primary focus on the water/wastewater municipal market. Ideally having design, permitting, and construction experience with wastewater process and/or process mechanical systems in Florida. Excellent technical engineering and task management skills are crucial. A Master's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering, or a related field, is preferred. Additionally, active participation in regional or national professional associations is highly desirable.
