Job description

Thompson First Group is currently seeking Machine Operator Trainees for a premier manufacturing client in the Sandston, VA area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are mechanically inclined and looking to build a long-term career in manufacturing. No previous machine operating experience is required—we're looking for dependable individuals with a strong work ethic who are eager to learn.

This is a contract-to-hire position offering hands-on training, opportunities for advancement, and the chance to become a skilled Machine Operator in a modern manufacturing environment.

Position Summary

The Machine Operator Trainee will learn to operate, monitor, and assist in the setup of manufacturing equipment used in the production process. Working alongside experienced operators, you'll gain valuable mechanical and technical skills while ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to safely operate manufacturing equipment through on-the-job training.
  • Assist with machine setup, adjustments, and product changeovers.
  • Monitor equipment during production runs and report mechanical or quality concerns.
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure products meet company specifications.
  • Load raw materials and assist with maintaining continuous production.
  • Package and prepare finished products for shipment.
  • Complete production paperwork and required documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to maximize efficiency.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to become a fully qualified Machine Operator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous manufacturing, warehouse, machine operation, or industrial experience is preferred but not required.
