Job description

Operates and monitors company plants and facilities, typically Upstream facilities after primary separation and processing (such as gas and co-gen plants) and Downstream & Chemical refineries and plants. Monitors process variables, troubleshoots, and performs interventions to maintain operating performance.
Performs routine assignments under general supervision. Gaining knowledge of work procedures and practices.

Specialty Operations business unit is accepting applications for Operator Trainee positions located at the Oak Point Plant in Belle Chasse, Louisiana through June 5th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (Central Standard Time).

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Operates and monitors company plants and facilities, monitors process variables, troubleshoots, and performs interventions to maintain operating performance.

  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed.

  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others.

  • Manual operations that include connecting and disconnecting cargo hoses and load arms on railcars, tank trucks,shipsand barges. Manual transfer of chemicals from bags and drums.

  • Operation of manual and automatic valves, meters, pumps, and transfer systems to handle product movement between tanks and process units.

  • Operation of batch and continuous process units utilizing a wide range of control systems and equipment that includes centrifuges, solids transfer systems, refrigeration units, mixers, heat exchangers, pumps, vacuum systems and filters.

  • Operation of our utility systems that include power generation by gas fired turbines, boilers, air compressors, hot oil units, incinerator furnaces, firewater and cooling water systems, boiler feedwater treatment and effluent water treatment systems.

  • Prepare equipment for maintenance activities and handle minor maintenance.

  • Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean work environment and clean equipment such as filters, tanks, exchangers, and other various equipment.

  • Requires frequent and extended time outdoors in all climates and in proper personal protective equipment.

  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including full-body coveralls, protective footwear, hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, full-face respirators, and/or self-contained breathing apparatus.

  • Work at elevated heights with appropriate fall protection and work within confined spaces.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Two or more years of manufacturing or Industrial related work experience, or prior Military experience, or completion of Associate's or Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program or related equivalent from an accredited program may be accepted in lieu of required work experience.

  • Ability and willingness to work rotating day and night shifts, weekends, overtime, on-call, and holidays based on assigned work schedule.

  • Ability to successfully complete a post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination, as well as pre-placement verification of the information and qualifications provided during the selection process.

  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

  • Must obtain a valid TWIC prior to employment.

  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven record in Safety and Reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an Oil and Gas, Energy, Petrochemical or Chemical facilities in roles such as, but not limited to, Production Operator, Process Technician, Process Operator, Chemical Operator, Distillation Operator, Utility Operator, Process Control Operator, Control Room Operator, Emergency Response, Tank Field Operator, Terminal Operator

  • Completion of Associate's or Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program or related equivalent from an accredited program.

  • Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and an aptitude for learning new applications.

Assessment

As part of the application process, you will be required to take an assessment that measures aptitude and work styles. We recommend you allow approx. 45 minutes to complete the assessment in one sitting. If you need to exit, your progress will be saved.

You will be immediately directed to the testing portal upon submittal of your application, at which point you will have72 hours (about 3 days)to complete the online assessment.

Once complete, your assessment score will be valid for 180 days. Should you re-apply for another Job Requisition within this timeframe that includes the Operations Assessment, you will be required to complete the application process and then click on the assessment link. This will resubmit your previous results.
