Job description

Overview

Responsible to the Manager Sterile Processing  for the operation and administration of the Sterile Processing systems,  including effective management of clinical systems, human resources, finances and the work environment.  Develops, implements, and monitors sterile processing standards, and promotes the overall goals and objectives of the department's mission.  Must be able to adjust to and lead others through a rapidly changing environment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with Alabama Licensure, Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work related experience demonstrating effective leadership and management skills.

CERTIFICATION: IAHCSMM certification in Healthcare Leadership required within 1 year of hire.

 

EXPERIENCE:   Extensive Operating Room or Sterile Processing  experience preferred.  Demonstrates leadership ability.  Management experience desirable.

 Additional Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have in depth experience and knowledge of sterile processing and instrumentation.
  • Must be familiar with OR procedures and practices as they apply to utilization of instrumentation. 
  • Must be well versed in Joint Commission and AAMI standards.
  • Must be able to organize work load, accomplish goals and objectives, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to problem solve effectively, detect problems, gather and organize data, consider alternatives and commit to appropriate action.
  • Must be able to establish performance/ developmental goals, coach performance, provide training, and evaluate performance for trainees.
  • Must be able to determine priorities, delegate when required and follow up on problem solving, including the ability to adapt to an often stressful and rapidly changing environment. 
  • Must possess the discipline to adhere to processes and procedures as well as hold accountable direct reports to do the same.
  • Must have a quality orientation and be attentive to detail.
  • Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Excel, and SPM applications.
