Job description

The Ottohahn Group is working with a premier worldwide manufacturer and specialty fabricator of nuclear components to find an Engineering Manager to join their growing team!

Summary:

The Engineering Manager works closely with the Director of Engineering to define and implement departmental strategies in support of goals and organizational objectives.

Responsibilities:

Management:

  • Maintain a positive and effective leadership role through effective communication, one-on-one meetings, defined roles & responsibilities, clear expectations, regular guidance and feedback, and established priorities
  • Direct engineering resources and coordinate their activities to achieve maximum efficiency and produce cost-effective, high-quality products
  • Serve as the Chief Engineer, while leading and managing day-to-day engineering operations
  • Provide input to strategic initiatives & execute strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with & mentor direct reports to build trust, respect, and a high-performing team
  • Ensure departmental ability to deliver a high-quality, well-communicated work product
  • Implement continuous process improvements to ensure quality, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ensure departmental adherence to ISO & Nuclear Quality programs
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with all internal & external customers

General:

  • Manage departmental workflow to achieve on-time delivery and KPI targets
  • Maintain up-to-date project and sales order tracking systems
  • Maintain existing product maintenance, enhancement and testing
  • Collaborate with the Drafting Supervisor to ensure modeling and drawing are practices meet
  • Develop, implement and enforce standards to ensure consistency and best-practice approach
  • Coordinate resources to provide timely support to QA and the Shop Floor 
  • Develop and implement a BOM strategy for all products in support of strategic objectives
  • Manage welding/brazing activities including procedures, approvals and certifications
  • Review and Approve (sign-off) engineering documents
  • Seek out new technology and opportunities for continuing education & process improvement

Experience / Knowledge with:

  • Expert in the interpretation and application of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Sections III, Classes1, 2, and 3 and Section VIII as related to custom product design
  • Proficiency in the design of mechanical components and equipment assemblies
  • Strong organizational skills capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strength of materials
  • Solidworks & EPDM

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
  • 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Positions are direct hire on-site in Lynchburg, VA
  • Must be a U.S Citizen or Permanent resident
