TO: Associate Director - Engineering
SUPERVISES: None
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
Execute assigned pharmaceutical projects and ensures that assigned projects are executed profitably, accurately, on time, within the scope of the contract and in alignment with customer requirements. Follows consistent and repeatable basic project management practices and follows the formal Johnson Controls pharmaceutical / validated environments execution process.
Develops and provides detailed engineering information to communicate design, configuration, operating and installation requirements to customers, consultants, and necessary subcontractors. Works with the sales team to maintain an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results. As needed, supports the sales team by assisting with pre-sales activities on strategic HVAC Branch opportunities.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
  • Develop and communicate the validation schedules in keeping with the project requirements, keeping in mind the need to meet the following project timelines:
  • Mechanically Complete
  • Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR)
  • Substantially Complete (SC)
  • Transfer of Control (TC)
  • Transfer of Custody, Care and Control (TCCC)
  • Develop an engineering capacity model for validation activities Interface with Installation, Engineering and VET/Lilly as required to ensure consistent project throughput: Project Manager, System Owner, Engineering Manager, Validation Engineer, Project Lead Engineer, Technical Writer.

Determine Project Scope:
  • Utilize the project scope to fully understand and implement project and/or customer Validation requirements.
  • Utilize JCI document samples (CSV, Graphics, Sys. Acceptance) prior to project execution. Understand and establish customer expectations.
  • Present System Acceptance package examples as required.
  • Assist JCI Sales with Validation presentation and discovery sessions, estimating, and other tasks that support Validation issues.
  • Assist with Change Orders (Scope/Estimating) and assess impact on project deliverables and schedules.
  • Assist with project estimating when required.
  • Participate in JCI project turnover meetings as required.
  • Work directly with PM's and Validation Engineers to ensure a consistent Project Scope.

Monitor Project Progress:
  • Work directly with PM's and Validation Engineers to ensure adherence to Scope/Schedule
  • Monitor and evaluate group performance for project costs and adherence to project schedules.
  • Monitor and evaluate individual group members for project costs, adherence to project schedule, and document quality.
  • Maintain communication with the Engineering and projects Team Leaders on project progress including schedules, manpower loading and costs.
  • Act as Liaison Between JCI and Lilly

Work with Validation Engineers / Validation Quality Work with Lilly QC, CSQC as required.
Support JCI Project Managers:
  • Monitor project progress and ensure project requirements are being met.
  • Monitor project schedules and ensure project requirements are being met.
  • Ensure customer validation commitments are being met
  • Assess scope changes and the impact on scope and Validation deliverables
  • Attend project meetings as required.
  • Act as Validation project consultant for JCI and Lilly personnel.
  • Remain current with industry standards. Attend professional development seminars and training courses when appropriate.

Interface with VQT:
  • Influence CSV template updates as required
  • Understand and remain current with Lilly policies and procedures, regulatory issues - Determine impact on JCI Deliverables
  • Understand and remain current with Lilly quality issues - determine impact on JCI Deliverables.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering plus one to three years related work experience, or minimum 9 years related work experience in HVAC equipment or similar field.
  • Computer skills experience to include Microsoft Office suite (with emphasis on Word, Excel and Visio) and basic Windows operating system environment. Ability to work independently.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage a large and diverse number of projects with professionalism, cooperation, and persistence.

Experience:
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical processes and plant design, cGMP principles, documentation practices and validation requirements. Possess a deep understanding of the established processes, communicating that to customer sites to ensure consistency, and working internally to continuously improve processes to right-size cost and complexity.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and HVAC concepts and operations Proficient in project design, programming, job startup & commissioning, troubleshooting.
  • An understanding of project financial reports. Understanding of Lilly CSV Policies and Procedures
  • Able to apply this understanding to daily tasks to ensure consistency of documentation and adherence to Lilly CSV Policies and Procedures
  • Understand the JCI business process for project discovery, document development process, project scheduling (planning/tracking), quality reviews, and system acceptance.
  • Understand all aspects of the project development process, including template standards, software standards, graphics standards, the customer delivery process, and support timely customer reviews/approvals

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills & language proficiency are required.
  • Strong personal computer skills are required.
  • Strong project management skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to mentor and coach others in the organization as needed.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $95,000 - 135,000. USD Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
