POSTING CLOSE DATE: Open Until Filled

BCI is hiring a Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer to design, run, and continually improve the core infrastructure behind one of Canada's largest institutional investors. This role is for senior, hands-on engineers who value ownership and complexity. You will work across cloud and on-prem infrastructure that directly supports global investment operations.

This position may be based in Victoria or Vancouver.

THE OPPORTUNITY

BCI manages assets on behalf of more than 30 BC public sector pension and benefit plans. This role owns the infrastructure that keeps those operations running across cloud and on-prem platforms and multiple office locations.

Reporting to the Manager, Cloud Operations & Infrastructure, you will design, automate, and continuously improve the systems the business depends on. You will work closely with senior engineers, application teams, and security partners to evolve BCI's cloud and infrastructure environment.

This is not a ticket-driven role. You will take real accountability for platforms supporting $295B in gross assets under management, influence architecture, raise engineering standards, and shape how cloud and infrastructure are designed and operated at BCI.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

As part of BCI's Technology team, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners to enable critical investment processes. You will work alongside talented engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to design and deliver innovative, high-impact solutions that support BCI's long-term goals.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • 6+ years of experience across physical and cloud infrastructure, with direct Azure experience in production environments and a working understanding of cloud architecture, networking, and security frameworks

  • Hands-on experience automating provisioning and system administration using Terraform and/or ARM templates, including designing self-healing and fault-tolerant services

  • Strong background in identity and access management and Windows-based platforms including Active Directory, Entra, Exchange, SQL, System Center, SharePoint, and PKI

  • Extensive knowledge of OS security, virtualization, and storage, with the ability to translate that into secure, practical solutions

  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Azure Monitor, SolarWinds, Dynatrace, or similar

  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, with working knowledge of DevOps and Agile delivery practices

  • Strong technical writing skills and a demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and deliver project results

  • Demonstrated use of AI assistants and/or agentic tools to accelerate infrastructure development, troubleshooting, and automation, with an understanding of AI workload requirements

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead the implementation of a secure platform operational and services strategy; develop and implement governance, policies, standards, and guidelines aligned to industry frameworks and best practices

  • Develop and implement technical infrastructure roadmaps supporting BCI's strategic objectives; collaborate with Technology teams on roadmap planning, development, and implementation

  • Design, analyze, and recommend cloud controls, processes, and procedures; drive product selection, POC, implementation, and deployment; ensure all cloud products and services meet BCI's availability, integrity, scalability, and security requirements

  • Monitor the health of production cloud and on-prem systems; diagnose and resolve routine and complex infrastructure issues through root cause analysis; lead and perform infrastructure improvements, upgrades, and repairs

  • Orchestrate and automate cloud and on-prem operational tasks; ensure optimal performance of infrastructure, servers, and services across all BCI office locations

  • Champion AI-assisted workflows and agentic tools to accelerate solution development, automate routine tasks, and drive continuous improvement in infrastructure operations

  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of BCI's systems and applications to ensure infrastructure architecture supports all platforms in an optimized fashion

  • Provide expert input to BCI's cloud and infrastructure disaster recovery plan; contribute to project plans at a senior level; undertake special projects and assignments as required

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to team members; proactively identify risks and propose solutions to remove barriers

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal technology teams, external service providers, and stakeholders throughout the service delivery lifecycle; provide after-hours production support as required
