Who we're looking for

Toyota's Paint Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Paint & Plastics Chemical Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to support Production, Maintenance, and Pilot Operations within the Paint Body Shop as an Engineer.

Reporting to the Paint Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Paint Department's Hoshin as related to the engineering role.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead chemical and process improvements to achieve Hoshin-based Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Cost targets across paint booths, ED coating, pretreatment, sealers, and anticorrosion processes.

  • Provide chemical engineering expertise to troubleshoot paint and ED coating defects, including adhesion, appearance, corrosion performance, and process stability issues.

  • Manage paint shop chemical systems, including raw material control, bath chemistry monitoring, replenishment strategies, and process standardization.

  • Support defect reduction and process optimization through data analysis and root cause investigations related to coatings chemistry and material interactions.

  • Support chemical aspects of new product and equipment launches, ensuring robust Change Point Management.

  • Lead or support environmental and compliance initiatives, including chemical safety, waste and VOC reduction, and certifications such as ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Chemical Science in Engineering

  • Manufacturing/Process Engineering experience

  • Project Management experience

  • Ability and willingness to work up to 25% travel and overtime as business needs require.

  • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that's acceptable by company standards is required for this position (keep this bullet as needed for roles that require driving)

Added bonus if you have

  • Automotive Plastics Paint or Body Paint Application experience

  • Robot Paint Spray programming experience
