JOB OVERVIEW

The Engineering Manager supports the Chief Engineer in the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the Engineering Department. This role serves as manager on duty, combining leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on execution.

This position is responsible for supervising daily operations, ensuring asset protection, maintaining building systems, and delivering high-quality guest experiences, while acting as the department leader in the absence of the Chief Engineer.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Leadership & Department Support

  • Support the Chief Engineer in daily department operations, staffing, and scheduling
  • Supervise engineering team members, including assigning work, monitoring productivity, and providing coaching and feedback
  • Conduct daily shift briefings to communicate priorities, hotel conditions, and operational updates
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and coverage across shifts
  • Act as department leader in the absence of the Chief Engineer, including decision-making and escalation management
  • Enforce company policies, grooming standards, and departmental procedures
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee and actively participate in repairs and maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house systems
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor work orders based on guest impact and operational needs
  • Diagnose and resolve complex maintenance issues across all building systems
  • Ensure completion of preventative maintenance programs and maintain documentation
  • Maintain quality control standards for all engineering work performed
  • Support deep cleaning and capital improvement projects in coordination with Housekeeping and Operations
  • Ensure proper operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment systems

Financial & Administrative

  • Assist with department budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives
  • Monitor labor and supply expenses to ensure alignment with budget expectations
  • Support purchasing processes, vendor coordination, and inventory management of parts and supplies
  • Maintain accurate documentation including work orders, maintenance logs, payroll records, and compliance tracking
  • Assist in identifying capital needs and long-term asset improvement planning

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, fire/life safety systems, and all regulatory requirements
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify safety hazards and ensure corrective action is taken
  • Support and lead safety meetings, training sessions, and incident follow-up
  • Maintain documentation related to safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance
  • Participate in emergency response procedures and crisis management as needed

Team Development

  • Train, mentor, and cross-train engineering team members to build skill depth and operational flexibility
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new team members
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and support development planning
  • Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the department

Guest Experience

  • Ensure all engineering operations support seamless, high-quality guest experiences
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance concerns
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house and operations teams regarding room status and service disruptions
  • Maintain property standards that align with brand expectations and ownership priorities


Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

3-5 years of maintenance experience in hospitality or similar field

1-2 years of leadership experience

Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building systems

Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Flexible schedule including on-call responsibilities
