Job description

The group you'll be a part of
You'll be joining the WETS Product Group's Process Critical Mechanical Engineering team. Wet Equipment and Technology Solutions is an exciting, rapidly evolving field as the semiconductor industry's dependence on wafer-level packaging solutions continues to grow with consumer needs such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and super-computing. The Process Critical team is responsible for some of the most critical hardware with the closest proximity to the wafer and largest impact on plating performance. Our team partners closely with process engineering and customer account teams to deliver world-class hardware solutions for our customers. The team is seeking someone with a passion for engineering, strong analytical skills and attention to detail while keeping work fun and collaborative.
The impact you'll make
As a Mechanical Engineer 4 in the WETS Product Group, you will contribute directly in the continuous improvement of plating cell hardware for wet plating process equipment on the Sabre and Sabre 3D products. Your work will support critical customer engagements, shaping mechanical designs that meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability goals. You will be responsible for independently developing robust mechanical solutions to complex problems including customer requested improvements, failure analysis, quality improvements. You will work closely with Systems, Process, Electrical, Controls, and Key Account Team partners. Your contributions will help reduce development and enable high-quality, innovative products to reach customers on time. This is an execution-focused role with meaningful ownership, where strong fundamentals and good engineering judgment make a visible impact on product success.
What you'll do
  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Translate subsystem-level requirements into detailed mechanical designs, layouts, and drawings.
  • Perform engineering analysis (e.g., tolerance analysis, thermal-mechanical considerations, structural integrity) to support design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems, Process, Electrical, Controls, Software, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure successful subsystem integration.
  • Support NPI phase-gate activities (Pre-DR, DDR, CDR, FDR) by delivering assigned mechanical design milestones on schedule.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis, contributing to DFMEA and corrective action efforts.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and engineering documentation in accordance with Lam standards.
  • Work with external Supply Chain partners to ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective.
  • Contribute to sustaining engineering efforts and field issue resolution as needed.

Who we're looking for
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or 3 years with a PhD
  • Exercises good judgement in mechanical design methods and evaluation criteria
  • Completes tasks independently and recognizes when direction is needed
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools, preferably Creo and/or NX
  • Solid foundation in mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to read and interpret system requirements, drawings, and interface documentation
  • Effective problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred qualifications
  • Knowledge of electroplating or the semiconductor industry at large, especially the Sabre and Sabre 3D product line
  • Knowledge of metal machining, plastics machining, elastomeric seals, and coating commodities
  • Understand and organize highly configurable assemblies with 100s of feature options to efficiently control proliferation, quality, compatibility and future iterations
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to test ideas, gather manufacturability feedback, and to maintain focus on timely executing to deliverables
  • Experience teaming with process engineering to provide technical guidance in evaluating hardware solutions
  • Understanding of statistics and variability to ensure long-term part reliability
  • Able to develop accurate problem statements and evaluate solution options
  • Able to perform computational modeling, mainly for structural mechanics and fluid dynamics
