Job Description

The Process Engineer IV serves as a technical lead for process design on projects of varying size and complexity. This role is responsible for overseeing process engineering scope, ensuring technical quality, and supporting delivery across all project phases-from conceptual design through construction and startup.

The Process Engineer IV applies advanced knowledge of process systems, including fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and material and energy balances, to develop and review design deliverables and ensure alignment with client requirements and industry standards. This role collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders, including cross-disciplinary project teams, clients, vendors, and construction partners.

The Process Engineer IV is also responsible for planning and prioritizing work, supporting project execution, and providing technical guidance to engineering staff. This includes reviewing work for accuracy and completeness, contributing to problem-solving efforts, and helping to drive project outcomes that meet client expectations, schedule, and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys
  • Interface with clients and external partners to support project execution and deliverables
  • Plan, prioritize, and direct discipline work, including management of process engineering scope, schedule, and budget on complex projects
  • Partner with the Project Manager to support proposal development, man-hour planning, and discipline-specific project scheduling
  • Develop construction drawing packages and specifications for complex projects with minimal oversight
  • Support and lead construction-phase activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, developing punch lists, and contributing to construction progress reporting
  • Perform and/or review engineering calculations and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and overall project quality
  • Lead process system design efforts, including programming, master planning, and facility layout development
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers (Engineer I/II, Designer I/II)
  • Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams, vendors, and construction partners to support project execution

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Site selection and site due diligence support
  • Master planning and capacity planning/expansion strategy development
  • Facility layout and process flow development
  • Vendor package coordination for complex or novel systems
  • Participation in risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, HACCP, or similar)
  • 3D model review and coordination
  • Support for field walkdowns and development of field reports
  • Oversight of commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in a discipline-specific field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in a design firm, operating company, or construction-related environment within the applicable industry
  • Demonstrated experience leading process engineering scope on complex projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related engineering discipline
  • Experience across a blend of design, operations, and/or construction environments

Additional Qualifications

  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable building codes
  • Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and supporting field reporting
  • Strong experience coordinating across cross-disciplinary project teams (internal and external)
  • Experience coordinating with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers
  • Proven ability to perform advanced discipline-specific engineering calculations with limited supervision
  • Experience troubleshooting process systems and supporting resolution of technical issues
