Job description

Financeit is a point-of-sale financing provider serving some of the largest home improvement and retail organizations in Canada. Our platform helps businesses close more sales by offering customers affordable monthly payment options for their next big home improvement, vehicle or retail purchase.

We are small enough that you can make an impact within the company and large enough to make an impact in the market. Financeit is a company where collaboration, inclusivity, fairness, and respect aren’t just ideas that get talked about, but are part of who we are. If such a workplace intrigues you, we hope you’ll join us.

About the role:

Do you love working with numerous stakeholders spanning a wide range of functions, spending your time defining business rules, writing tech requirements, confirming that things were built correctly, connecting it all back to strategy & analytics, and relish the idea of seeing your work used by hundreds of thousands of people every single year? Are you equally skilled at balancing deep critical thinking with pragmatic execution, and consistently delivering on time? If so, we’d love to meet you.

We are seeking a Manager, Business Analytics to act as the true "system owner" for our Core Lending Platform. But beware; this role is not passive “requirements takers”. Managing a $4B portfolio and hundreds of thousands of customer accounts requires someone with a sense of gravitas and a "zero-defect" mindset.

In this role, you will lead the rebuild of key components of our core platform to ensure it’s ready to power our next phase of growth. You will ensure that our homegrown system-of-record and every single payment, fee, loan modification, write-off, repossession, and reporting output is precise, reliable, explainable and consistent across every account, and every touchpoint across the business.

With critical thinking, advanced technical architecture and data engineering skills, and the opportunity to heavily impact a rapidly growing organization, this role might just be for you!

What you'll be doing:

  • Become the organizational subject-matter expert and driving force behind our Core Lending System and all associated Servicing capabilities from defining the business rules of how it should work through the data reporting layer and ensure that everything works in a way that is both logical and consistent with expectations and regulatory requirements
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements and business intent into prioritized epics and sprints spanning the range of how loan economics should be calculated, to how they can be manipulated by customer service agents, to what data we should be capturing from the system to inform strategy, conduct analytics and deliver audit-ready reporting
  • Partner cross-functionally with the Finance (Treasury and Accounting), Operations, Risk, and Data Science teams to understand their goals and ensure they have what’s needed to succeed and thrive
  • Map and re-engineer (as required) existing business rules and processes
  • Work with stakeholders to identify common linkages between problems and prioritize solutions from the platform layer through the user interface layer to the data layer that solve multiple issues simultaneously and set the business up for future success
  • Document algorithms, processes, data sets, and tools in ways that ensure the seamless and accurate internal transfer of knowledge across generations
  • Help foster a team culture rooted in passion, curiosity, and continuous improvement
  • Bring energy, positivity, a critical eye, unimpeachable integrity, a team-first attitude, and a desire to contribute to building something great, together

Who you are:

  • You bring a “system owner” mindset and look at a loan through the multi-dimensional lens of a customer, a support agency, and the finance team simultaneously
  • You have advanced technical architecture and data engineering skills, with a knack for translating complex financial economics into clean system requirements through data mapping, process engineering, and/or financial modelling
  • Elite critical thinking and problem solving, impeccable judgment, and advanced communication (verbal, visual, and written) skills required
  • Legitimately curious and passionate about finding the “right answer” with a detail-oriented mindset and a “healthy sense of paranoia”
  • Highly organized, disciplined and driven, with the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Balanced sense of pride & humility with the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and bring energy and enthusiasm

Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering, Math, or Computer Science
  • 6+ years of full-time and/or internship/PEYas a backend Product Manager / Owner, Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Data Architect, or Process Engineer
  • Advanced process mapping, data mapping, process engineering, data engineering, and financial modelling skills
  • 4+ years of applied experience delivering actual products built from stakeholder requests, cross-functional inputs and business requirements
  • Proficiency with dbt, SQL, Python, and agile development tools including JIRA, Confluence, and Miro will be highly valued
  • Experience working in indirect (B2B2C) lending, and/or delivering functional solutions supporting accounting, capital markets, customer service and/or collections & recoveries teams at a financial institution would be a strong asset
  • A balanced sense of confidence & humility with the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and bring energy and enthusiasm to team culture
  • Capable of having fun while doing all of the above; we’re serious about this
