SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:ย ย 

Gridworks is seeking an individual to join our Electrical Design Drafting team as a Drafting Intern to performย timelyย design development drafting for utility scale solarย (PV)ย and battery energy storage projects.

The CAD Technicianย is responsible forย taking projects fromย early design developmentย to installation, focusingย on accuracy of design, attention toย detailย and overall efficiency of the commercial construction process.ย ย This individual will be an integral part of an engineering design group, working alongside ourย design engineering team, constructionย managersย and project managers in performing technical design andย specification.ย ย 

JOB DESCRIPTIONย 

Technical Drawing and Modelingย 

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings, models, and layouts based on project specifications and requirementsย for utility scale solar and/or energy storage systems.
    Convert initial concepts, sketches, or hand-drawn designs intoย accurateย CAD representations.ย 
  • Build detailed bills of materials (BOM) based on system specificationsย with support from theย electrical design engineer.ย ย 

Software Utilizationย 

  • Utilize CAD software tools (e.g., AutoCAD) proficientlyย to produce andย modifyย designs.ย 
  • Stay updated with the latest software updates and incorporate new features into design workflows.ย 

Collaboration and Coordinationย 

  • Work closely with engineers and other team members to ensureย accurateย representation and implementation ofย designs.ย 
  • Coordinate design interfaces with otherย engineeringย disciplines (civil,ย structural, SCADA/EMS, fire detection, substation, etc.) as applicable, to achieveย appropriateย cross-disciplineย alignment.ย ย 
  • Communicate effectively to clarify requirements, address design-related queries, and provide solutions to design challenges.ย 

Quality Assurance and Complianceย 

  • Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and compliance withย code andย industry standards and guidelines.ย 
  • Ensure designs meet specified dimensions, tolerances, and other technical requirements.ย 

Documentation and Record-Keeping:ย 

  • Maintain organized documentation of CAD files, design revisions, and project updates.ย 
  • Archive and manage CAD files to ensure accessibility and version control for future reference.ย 

Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:ย 

  • Identifyย and resolve discrepancies or inconsistencies in design specifications.ย 
  • Assistย in troubleshooting technical issues related to CAD software or design files.ย 

Continuous Learning and Skill Development:ย 

  • Stay informed about the latest CAD technologies, techniques, and best practices.ย 
  • Participate in training programs, workshops, or certifications to enhance CAD skills andย proficiency.ย 
  • Stayย current withย NEC codeย changes applicable to solarย (PV)ย and BESSย projectsย ย 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  • This position has no direct or indirectย supervisoryย responsibilities, subject toย change,ย if necessary, as responsibility changes.ย ย 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:ย 

  • The idealย candidate should be physically able to sit in front of a computer every workday for long hours at a time.ย 
  • This job willย operateย inย the Albuquerqueย main office.ย 
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and headsets.ย ย 
  • Work can be fast-paced and demandingย during peak seasons in project development.ย 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:ย 

  • This isย largely aย sedentaryย roleย working in an office environment.ย ย This position would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend, stoop, kneel or stand as necessary, manual dexterity necessary toย operateย office equipment as necessary to perform allย aspectsย of the job.ย ย
