The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems and equipment within assigned buildings. This role requires a valid electrician license and strict adherence to national and local electrical codes, manufacturer specifications, and all applicable safety regulations. The position supports facility operations through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency response, and coordination with contractors while maintaining high quality and safety standards.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Install, repair, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances in assigned facilities, including:
    • Installing device receptacles and wiring
    • Providing electrical connections for computer workstations
    • Replacing fuses, breakers, switches, and related components
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on building electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and emergency systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and systems to diagnose failures and complete repairs, including responding to emergency power outages.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with:
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • Local jurisdictional codes
    • Manufacturer specifications
    • OSHA, Client, and C&W safety policies
  • Maintain accurate work logs and documentation, including wiring records, inspections, and repairs.
  • Prepare reports as required for compliance, inspections, maintenance, and operational tracking.
  • Assist in the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs for electrical and related building systems.
  • Coordinate activities with outside contractors, ensuring work meets safety, quality, and licensing standards.
  • Maintain inventory of electrical supplies and parts; requisition materials and equipment as needed.
  • Perform general building maintenance tasks as assigned, within the scope of licensure.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times.
  • Ensure assigned work tasks meet established quality standards and promote continuous improvement through process enhancements.
  • Use hand tools, measuring instruments, test equipment, and powered tools necessary to perform licensed electrical work.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately and professionally.
  • Willingness to work overtime and respond to after-hours emergencies as business needs require.

Training & Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED or technical school preferred).
  • Active Electrician License issued by the applicable local or state jurisdiction (required).
  • Thorough knowledge of:
    • Electrical theory
    • National Electrical Code (NEC)
    • Local electrical codes and regulations
  • Demonstrated positive attitude, professionalism, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work with computers, automated controls, and building management systems.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum ofthree (3) years of experience working as a licensed electrician, preferably in an industrial, commercial, or facilities environment.

Other Qualifications & Physical Requirements

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs safely for daily tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to work in mechanical rooms, confined spaces, and varying environmental conditions as required by the role.
