They analyze existing workflows, implement best practices, and coordinate cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence. Process Directors also monitor key performance indicators, manage change initiatives, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Their ultimate goal is to align processes with the organization's strategic objectives and foster continuous improvement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a process director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Director, you need deep expertise in process improvement methodologies, project management, and strategic planning, often supported by a relevant degree and certifications like Lean Six Sigma or PMP. Job description

The Process Engineer will lead process-driven equipment and tower internal inspections during an upcoming refinery turnaround. In this role, you will evaluate distillation towers, internals, heat exchangers, vessels, heaters, and reactors from a process performance perspectiveโ€”ensuring equipment cleanliness, structural integrity, and proper installation to prevent capacity loss, flooding, or poor separation upon restart.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive process inspections on multiple distillation towers and columns during the turnaround
  • Thoroughly evaluate the condition of internal componentsโ€”including trays, structured/random packing, liquid distributors, downcomers, flash zones, and support hardware
  • Assess equipment in three key phases: As-Found, Post-Cleaning, and Post-Repair/Re-installation
  • Verify cleanliness, mechanical soundness, tray leveling/seating, and proper component orientation to safeguard against future operational issues (e.g., flooding, channeling, capacity loss, or entrainment)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field (equivalent hands-on experience in process tower internals inspection will be considered).
  • 3+ years of experience in refinery, petrochemical, or specialty chemical process engineering with direct involvement in turnaround (TA) inspections and distillation column hardware.
  • In-depth understanding of distillation principles, tower hydraulic limits (flooding, weeping, foaming), and internals hardware assembly (trays, packing, distributors).
  • Familiarity with heat exchanger and process vessel internals from an operational/process perspective.
  • Note: Inspections are strictly process-driven and focus on internal conditions; API certifications (API 510/570) are not required.
