Job Summary:
As an intern in the Schumacher Design studio, you will support the Schumacher design teams both creatively and organizationally and gain experience with aspects of textile and wallcovering design and production. This role is a unique opportunity to learn and grow as a designer and ideal for someone with a background and interest in textile design, a passion for interiors and design history, and a strong sense of color and pattern. The role requires a balance of creative drive paired with a curiosity for technical problem-solving, a positive and proactive mindset, and a "no task is too small" attitude.

Qualifications:

  • BFA in Textile Design or related field
  • Enthusiasm for textiles, interior design, design and art history, and continuous learning
  • Some experience with Photoshop (ideally textile specific) or other textile software a plus
  • Strong hand drawing and hand painting ability
  • Familiarity with pattern repeats and layouts appropriate for textiles
  • Some understanding of general printing and weaving techniques
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and thorough
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize tasks in a highly productive environment, and work efficiently under pressure
  • Confidence and clarity in communication

Responsibilities:

  • Support the design team's development process by assisting with tasks like finding color swatches, organizing collection boards, preparing and sending out packages, organizing mill samples, and other general studio support
  • Work on simple layouts and artwork for prints and wovens
  • Assist with organization for production approvals
  • Manage and prioritize projects independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Assist with preparation for internal meetings and presentations

Hiring Details

  • Start date: 1st September 2026. Internship is seasonal, for Fall 2026 period.
  • Working Hours: 9am-5:30pm. Includes 30-minute lunch break.
  • Role is for 2 days a week, with the potential for a 3rd
