Pelican is seeking a highly technical and hands-on Injection Molding Process Engineer to lead process development, tooling qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives within our manufacturing operation. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in optimizing molding performance, improving quality, reducing scrap, and supporting new product introductions in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on problem-solving, process optimization, automation, and driving measurable manufacturing improvements through Six Sigma and Lean principles.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain injection molding processes to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot process issues, reduce downtime, and drive scrap reduction initiatives
  • Lead mold validation, qualification, and process development for new tooling and materials
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Partner with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, and Operations to improve manufacturability and process performance
  • Support new product introductions, equipment implementation, and manufacturing process improvements
  • Lead tooling projects from concept through production launch, working closely with vendors and suppliers
  • Participate in tooling design reviews and recommend improvements related to molds, automation, and processing technologies
  • Monitor process performance data and use Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement
  • Design and implement quality control systems, inspection methods, and process controls compliant with ISO standards
  • Provide technical training and support to production teams, technicians, and quality personnel
  • Travel to vendors and tool shops for mold run-offs, troubleshooting, and project support as needed
  • Stay current on advancements in injection molding technologies, automation, materials, and manufacturing best practices
  • Perform audits and ensure compliance with quality, safety, and operational standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned 

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • In-depth knowledge of scientific plastic injection molding techniques and procedures, including mold design, mold set-ups, and support equipment.
  • Proficiency in process optimization techniques and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering
  • Experience with CAD software and mold flow analysis is a plus.
  • Formal education in plastics engineering or an equivalent field
  • Intermediate knowledge of risk management, process control, and continual improvement practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of quality tools and quality systems management.
  • Competency with SPC/SQC, Process Capability Studies and Scientific Molding Techniques required
