Job Description:
Position Summary
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily quality control activities for asphalt production and paving operations. This role ensures testing, inspection, and documentation are performed accurately and in compliance with DOT specifications, project requirements, and company standards. The Quality Control Supervisor provides direct oversight of QC Technicians and serves as a key liaison between quality teams and operations.
Main Responsibilities
Quality Control Oversight
  • Supervise day-to-day quality control activities at asphalt plants and project sites
  • Ensure proper sampling, testing, and inspection of materials and paving operations
  • Review test results for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications
  • Identify non-conforming work or materials and escalate issues to the QC Manager

Field & Plant Support
  • Coordinate quality control coverage based on production and project schedules
  • Support operations by addressing quality-related issues in real time
  • Observe paving operations and provide feedback on mat quality, density, joints, and temperatures
  • Assist with troubleshooting materials, production, or placement concerns

Regulatory & Specification Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, municipal, and project-specific quality requirements
  • Assist with audits, certifications, and inspections for plants, labs, and job sites
  • Maintain required documentation, testing logs, and reports

Team Leadership & Training
  • Supervise and support QC Technicians and field testers
  • Provide training on testing procedures, documentation, and safety requirements
  • Promote consistency, accountability, and professionalism within the QC team
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures for all QC activities

Coordination & Communication
  • Communicate test results, trends, and issues to the QC Manager and Operations teams
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors, DOT representatives, and engineers as needed
  • Support pre-paving and daily production meetings related to quality expectations

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or construction education preferred
  • 3-7 years of experience in asphalt quality control, materials testing, or heavy civil construction
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt testing procedures, materials, and paving operations
  • Experience working under DOT specifications and quality programs
  • Ability to supervise and mentor QC Technicians
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the Mid-West Central Region

Preferred
  • State DOT certifications (HMA, aggregates, density, etc.)
  • Experience with asphalt plant operations and field paving inspection
  • Familiarity with performance-based mix designs
