Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
Here at Calpine, the Engineering Department plays an extremely important role with ensuring that our plants are able to meet the operational demands of today. A Turbine Controls Engineering Specialist is a critical asset, who communicates with all departments in the company, to provide innovative solutions to ensure current engineering standards are supported. Previous experience in plant operation and control systems, along with a willingness to explore and master new technologies, is essential for success in this engineering position. An ideal candidate here is self-motivated, highly knowledgeable, has strong problem solving skills and works well within a small team.
Job Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge.
  • Seasoned professional with advanced applied experience.
  • Applies advanced skills contributing to knowledge areas within function, but not yet an expert in all.
  • Develop and implement control logic changes on gas and steam turbines.
  • Audit OEM recommended controls changes and work with OEM as necessary for troubleshooting, data gathering and resolving turbine issues.
  • Lead informal training sessions for Operations and colleagues on logic changes and controls skills.
  • Makes recommendations on moderately complex issues regarding project components and tasks.
  • May make recommendations on new processes, tools and services; supports and contributes to development of new products, services or techniques.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope ranging from moderate to complex.
  • Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors. Collaborates with senior professionals in selection of methods, techniques, and analytical approach.
  • Works under limited supervision.
  • Prioritizes own weekly schedule and may guide others in the completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by management.
  • Regularly provides on-the-job skills training to others in complex technical areas.

Qualifications
  • Experience with RSLogix, Ovation, ABB controls system design, network design, programming, and maintenance.
  • OEM Field Service or Engineering Service experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with VMWare ESXi and Cisco IOS a plus
  • Experience reading pump curves and sizing control valves a plus

Education Requirements
  • High School diploma, or equivalent required
  • Senior level or seasoned professional with 20 or more years previous turbine maintenance experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field.

Salary Information
Range - $109,779.21 to 139,968.50 annually
