Role Overview

Reporting to the Process Control Coordinator, the Process Control Technician is accountable for providing and supporting effective process automation for all Red Dog Operations at both the Red Dog Mine and Port locations.

Key Responsibilities

•    Maintain an effective process control system by analyzing requirements, developing, and implementing hardware and software, ensuring the security of the system, and maintaining documentation to ensure cost effective process control and data acquisition.
•    Communicate effectively with operating, technical, maintenance, and other groups to ensure optimum utilization of resources.
•    Implement and maintain a statistical process control system as appropriate.
•    Improve process control and instrumentation by evaluating new technology and recommending implementation where cost effective, maintaining communications with suppliers and other operations.
•    Implement and  maintain  an  effective  preventive  maintenance program  based  on  operational equipment needs.
•    Demonstrate safe work practices personally. Create positive discussion with other co-workers to ensure compliance with safety policy at all times. Enforce regulations and policies when applicable.
•    Establish Personal Goals and Objectives annually that align with Departmental Goals and Objectives. (These require Supervisor approval and will be evaluated regarding attainment during Performance Planning and Coaching reviews).
•    Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

•    Working knowledge of PLC hardware is required; Allen Bradley knowledge required. PLC-5 knowledge will be considered an asset.
•    Working knowledge of PLC programming is required; Allen Bradley knowledge required.
•    Working knowledge of Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) programming is required; FactoryTalk or Wonderware Intouch is required.
•    Working knowledge of OSIsoft PI historian or equivalent historian database experience is required.
•    Working knowledge of Proportional, Integral, Derivative (PID) control is required.
•    Working knowledge of Advanced Process Control using Metso’s OCS-4D software is required.
•    Working knowledge of electrical systems and instrumentation is required and must be proficient at troubleshooting process issues.
•    Basic database & computer programming knowledge required; networking knowledge is an asset.
•    Possess aptitudes essential for acquiring the skills of a process control technician.
•    Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Windows environment.
•    Ability to prioritize and execute tasks.
•    Ability to complete work assigned with minimal supervision.
•    Capable of working with all levels of the organization and in a team environment.
•    Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
